That  would change the game forever. The threshold for a club doctor ordering a player to not return to the game after an on field collision would be much much lower.

I have been critical of various aspects of the club's management for a long time.

But in particular i have been strident in my criticism of all our comms (in its totality, ie fan focused, social media, website, crisis management, engagement, injury updates etc).

And I have little doubt poor comms is a factor in the tracc's evident anger. 

And I have a great deal of sympathy for tracc in terms of the trauma he has experienced from a near death, life changing experience.

But what is happening right now is almost all on tracc.

He is an adult who signed a muti million long term contract just three years ago.

And now he wants out of that contract, yet is trying to achieve that aim in an incredibly immature, unprofessional way.

I had thought it was likely his manager that backgrounded Morris.

I no longer think that because any such manager would never work in the business again if he leaked to the media his player wanted out without a landing place.

So that means tracc is driving what could only charitably called a strategy (by the by, it's pathetic to blame anyone else in his orbit, tracc is an adult).

I'm not suggesting the dees don't have issue to work through, but when the dust settles it will be tracc whose reputation is damaged.

Sorry when I said "the way we've managed this" I was talking about the environment that's been created at the club and the issues which have been left to fester (particularly those which came to a head last off season) for a number of years. I wasn't talking about the current Petracca situation specifically.

I agree that the club has done OK with how they're managing this extremely difficult falling out with their star player, I don't think it's been perfect but it hasn't been terrible either.

Weather it's all him or those around him or most likely both , the "strategy" has definitely hurt his "brand" .

Just say he does force his way out to what seemingly is his wish of only the Pies or Blues who fit the big club in the window criteria . How good will it be for his brand ( let alone his mental health) if he does not perform at the level expected which is highly possible given his injuries.

After selling the farm to get him the Pies or Blues fans are going to demand a Tracc at the top of his game relatively quickly and they are not the type of fans that will sit quietly and wait for him to perform. The groans of 60K Collingwood supporters at the G  isn't a happy place .

As for Clarry, did the club go too easy on him? Maybe they did. But the bottom line is that their care and support of him has seen him make a lot of progress in his recovery. It is a very complex issue, and you can argue that we shouldn’t have rushed him back into the side after his off season behavior. You can equally argue that playing AFL was the best thing for his mental health. It’s a fine line isn’t it?

I said it before, but I’ll never begrudge our club for doing what they needed to go to bring Clarry back from a dark place. If that points to bad culture or bad management, I don’t want us to be right. 

My issue is the things that were left to fester for years which allowed it to get to that stage. Not the way they reacted to it once it blew up.

Considering how his career panned out, Scully got a bigger pay day than he could have ever dreamed of. Seems like his dad did an excellent job.

Regardless, I'm not sure what a 'conflict of interest' at a managerial level amounts to. We're not talking about the courts here. Managers are there to represent their clients to potential employers and get them the best deal possible. Any conflict of interest that arises is an issue for the player alone to deal with.

LOL, point taken, but it is directly relevant to the Petracca/Trade/Carlton vortex that just emerged out of the blue in the last day or so. Martin out frees up cap space. Not sure if a Tracc to Carlton trade can be made but it is potentially possible, no way near as unrealistic as Tracc to Collingwood (which would be horrible).

I don’t support putting him back on the field, but let’s not pretend like this is something that never happens or Melbourne is solely to blame here. 
I’ve seen clubs allow players with clear head injuries back on the field. Not seeing those players try to burn their club as a result.

Martin was frontloaded. He'd only free up relative chump change. You'd need to trade out one of your untradeables or do some salary cap dumping. You've got high earners Cripps, Curnow, McKay about to be joined by Weitering, Walsh and De Konning. The numbers don't add up.
