I do not pretend to be qualified to put this scenario out there as being legally feasible, but I have been pondering whether Trac does have a legal option to force a release from his current contract.

Do they have a case to prosecute, which claims that the MFC failed in its duty of a care, by allowing him to return to the field, after sustaining his serious injury?  If so, could they then make out a case that in failing in its duty of care, the MFC have rendered the current contract as null and void, due to that conduct?

If so, Trac could be released from his current contract, be fully paid out and be free to go wherever he wants, without the club being compensated with trade/draft picks.

This would be my worst nightmare and I hope this scenario has no legal merit, but I am left to wonder.

That  would change the game forever. The threshold for a club doctor ordering a player to not return to the game after an on field collision would be much much lower.

The AFL would very much like to avoid it methinks.

I'm not one who likes Americanisms invading our language, however, they coined a word which describes this entire situation most aptly.

What do you all think of this hypothetical?

Gives us 5,6,7 & 13 in a strong draft pool.

Pick 25 is what I assume we get for ANB

There would be a bunch of later pick swap attached to this too Id imagine.

I think you’re overvaluing Cerra in that scenario. He isn’t worth a first round pick.

The way we have managed this?

C'mon, that's bollocks.

I have been critical of various aspects of the club's management for a long time.

But in particular i have been strident in my criticism of all our comms (in its totality, ie fan focused, social media, website, crisis management, engagement, injury updates etc).

And I have little doubt poor comms is a factor in the tracc's evident anger.

And I have a great deal of sympathy for tracc in terms of the trauma he has experienced from a near death, life changing experience.

But what is happening right now is almost all on tracc.

He is an adult who signed a muti million long term contract just three years ago.

And now he wants out of that contract, yet is trying to achieve that aim in an incredibly immature, unprofessional way.

I mean, did he even speak with another club to test the waters before running down the club to a peanut luke Morris?

I had thought it was likely his manager that backgrounded Morris.

I no longer think that because any such manager would never work in the business again if he leaked to the media his player wanted out without a landing place.

I mean c'mon.

So that means tracc is driving what could only charitably called a strategy (by the by, it's pathetic to blame anyone else in his orbit, tracc is an adult).

Nuclear option? Breach of contract?

Ridiculous.

I'm not suggesting the dees don't have issue to work through, but when the dust settles it will be tracc whose reputation is damaged.

Sorry when I said "the way we've managed this" I was talking about the environment that's been created at the club and the issues which have been left to fester (particularly those which came to a head last off season) for a number of years. I wasn't talking about the current Petracca situation specifically.

I agree that the club has done OK with how they're managing this extremely difficult falling out with their star player, I don't think it's been perfect but it hasn't been terrible either.

My bad for not being clear on what I was talking about.

Who Says no?

Trac gets to his request and goes to the Biggest Melbourne club of them all! *I Let's see how much he really wants to leave.

WCE - New Coach adds depth/quality and more competitive (particulary at home)  - No worry about the go home factor for Reid

Tigers: Trac/Yze can build and lead the culture at Richmond during the rebuild faze of there list - Bit of star power helps Tigers but they maintain there picks!

Dee's: Get Reid...no brainier

Reid: Comes back to Victoria

Weather it's all him or those around him or most likely both , the "strategy" has definitely hurt his "brand" .

Just say he does force his way out to what seemingly is his wish of only the Pies or Blues who fit the big club in the window criteria . How good will it be for his brand ( let alone his mental health) if he does not perform at the level expected which is highly possible given his injuries.

After selling the farm to get him the Pies or Blues fans are going to demand a Tracc at the top of his game relatively quickly and they are not the type of fans that will sit quietly and wait for him to perform. The groans of 60K Collingwood supporters at the G  isn't a happy place .

Our management may not have been completely acceptable, but if you’re talking about the substance issue, it was taken completely out of our hands. We can’t do anything about it beyond delisting said player.
How else did you want us to manage that scenario?

As for Clarry, did the club go too easy on him? Maybe they did. But the bottom line is that their care and support of him has seen him make a lot of progress in his recovery. It is a very complex issue, and you can argue that we shouldn’t have rushed him back into the side after his off season behavior. You can equally argue that playing AFL was the best thing for his mental health. It’s a fine line isn’t it?

I said it before, but I’ll never begrudge our club for doing what they needed to go to bring Clarry back from a dark place. If that points to bad culture or bad management, I don’t want us to be right.

My issue is the things that were left to fester for years which allowed it to get to that stage. Not the way they reacted to it once it blew up.

Martin won't be at Parc de Princes next year. Very talented, can make a real impact when he plays, just out injured too much whilst being on a hefty contract. Recent draftee, Ashton Moir, with 2 classy goals as a sub in the last fortnight will take his role. Moir was very smart drafting by the Blues (pick 29 but at one stage was touted as a potential top 3 pick but lengthy injury). Picked up a potential star relatively cheaply. The kid is genuinely ambidextrous (only 1% of the population is) and has natural ability and instinct. Needs to build his tank with a big pre-season.

While I like your input 31, does Carlton have a board for you discuss Carlton things?

Would love to know which club would accept a bloke that wants to move to increase his brand rather than any mention of team success.

Reckon old mate has done exactly what he intended, made the fan base really angry with him, made the players turn on him and that will ensure that he can get out. Absolute [censored] the whole Petracca camp right now.

I guess that sometimes relatives are not qualified or are inept to handle a professional player's career.

Considering how his career panned out, Scully got a bigger pay day than he could have ever dreamed of. Seems like his dad did an excellent job.

Regardless, I'm not sure what a 'conflict of interest' at a managerial level amounts to. We're not talking about the courts here. Managers are there to represent their clients to potential employers and get them the best deal possible. Any conflict of interest that arises is an issue for the player alone to deal with.

That just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

However is behind this PR disaster, should seriously review their managerial credentials, or lack thereof.

I think blame can probably be shared on both sides in that regard.

My apologies as I don't have the link or interview handy (can someone find it?), but I seem to recall not long after the game Laura Kane was on SEN and was asked about the Petracca injury and the handling of it and clarified that there's an independent AFL doctor on the team benches and they had ticked off everything around the handling of it on the day in terms of protocols etc. Does anyone else remember something along those lines?

I would think that would make it very embarrassing for the AFL to then turn around and allow him to tear up his contract due to mismanagement under their own protocols.

LOL, point taken, but it is directly relevant to the Petracca/Trade/Carlton vortex that just emerged out of the blue in the last day or so. Martin out frees up cap space. Not sure if a Tracc to Carlton trade can be made but it is potentially possible, no way near as unrealistic as Tracc to Collingwood (which would be horrible).

Geebus here we go.

School holidays already?

Reid doesn’t want to go back to Melbourne. He said that Perth is amazing, clean, beautifully sunny and that Melbourne just smells.

AFL signed off on how his injury was managed.
It is laughable to suggest that Trac didn’t say he wants to go back out and the doctor took this to me that he’s got nothing more than some broken ribs.

I don’t support putting him back on the field, but let’s not pretend like this is something that never happens or Melbourne is solely to blame here.
I’ve seen clubs allow players with clear head injuries back on the field. Not seeing those players try to burn their club as a result.

Martin was frontloaded. He'd only free up relative chump change. You'd need to trade out one of your untradeables or do some salary cap dumping. You've got high earners Cripps, Curnow, McKay about to be joined by Weitering, Walsh and De Konning. The numbers don't add up.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
