Crows have currently got pick 27 off us for Mcadam. Such a waste in a very deep draft year

I'll hold judgement on McAdam until next year as he barely had a pre season.

But yes, losing pick 27 (or thereabouts) hurts.

He’ll be 30 next year. Not exactly a long term prospect for the pick we’ve lost

I would try to trade Salem and/or Sparrow.

No, not Sparrow ... something is hiding there as a tough nut who can kick it a mile with accuracy, attack anyone from all opposition engagements, run to receive, find spaces and defend himself if challenged - it's just that Badloss has not yet found a way to apply him to a side in need of quicker ball movement, running contests, goal-shooting accuracy and inate 'mongrel' tendencies.

Still gotta do it

He’s still got two years to run on his contract, probably on good coin as well, who has the spare salary cap to take him??

How does anyone know how much cap space we need to clear? Those details aren’t published anywhere.

We’ve already started our re-build and will hopefully add another top 10 picked midfielder this year plus a bunch of other players through trade and free agency.

I wouldn’t mind us going after Jarrod Lyons for additional midfield depth as well.

That's exactly the problem with our list - we keep wanting to give players like Laurie, McAdam, Smith and so on more chances, even though they've proven time and time again that they're not up to it. You could say the same about Salem given his past three years. At some point you have to rip off the bandaid and move on.

Spot on.

We Must Trade for Players who are ready to play Senior Football straight away

We let Bedford go to GW$ and we still hope Laurie will make it, not only do we lose a good quick player, we make GW$ better

and that doesn’t mention other blunders who cannot even get a Senior Game when players are injured.
It is a complete F$&@ up

Well Goodwin's got 2 years left so he ain't going nowhere. Faster ball movement has to be his objective next year.

I'm interested in the assistants contracts IMO all should go McQualter, Chaplin, Stafford.

Retire: Brayshaw, B.Brown, Melksham, McDonald, Hunter

Delist: Schache, Tomlinson, Hore, Sestan, Farris-White

B: Lever, May, McVee

HB: Cumming, Petty, Houston

C: Windsor, Oliver, Langdon

HF: Neal-Bullen, van Rooyen, Chandler

F: Fritsch, Jefferson, Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Petracca, Viney

IC: Rivers, Salem, Turner, Fort\Moyle, Moniz-Wakefield

Casey

B: Draft pick, Adams, Howes

HB: Bowey, Draft pick, Woewodin

C: Billings, Laurie, Draft pick

HF: K.Brown, Kentfield, Spargo

F: McAdam, Draft pick, Fullerton

FOLL: Verrall, Sparrow, Tholstrup

IC: Yze, Mentha, Draft pick

We bring in Cumming FA, Houston trade, Fort\Moyle trade, 2 draft picks and  2 rookies and Yze, Mentha rookie B along with Moniz-Wakefield

No chance we'd play Fort or Moyle in our best side with Gawn. They have less versatility than Grundy

Can either of Fort or Moyle play forward?

If not how would they work with Gawn? Maybe against a couple of ruck heavy teams…

they wouldn’t come to us to sit at Casey

Why bother trading him then? It'd be pick 45+.

We would be much better of believing that Salem can find consistent fitness, and with that, find form.

He should also be put back into defense too. We tried as a midfielder to replace Braysahw, it looked OK but then he got hurt, and flung around positions, then hurt again. Send him back and put McVee into the midfield.

Because the blokes body is made of paper and struggles to play a full season out.

He's no use to the team if half of it is spent in rehab with all these soft tissue injuries.

He's going to be 30 next year, you're not going to get much more from him with his ongoing soft tissue injuries

Houston will cost us too much in draft picks, rather Cumming as a free agent and draft kids eg Windsor

I really don't think it's worth trading Salo.

He's a close member of the team, he won't net us anything anyway and he doesn't have much longer to go on his contract, nor would he be anywhere near the dollars of Trac or Clarry's contract.

It simply doesn't make sense, and risks cultural blow backs as well.

I get you're frustrated by the injuries, but it's not a great move.

Support him. See if you can get 10-15 games out of him again (he's played 14 this year) and show Melbourne people (he's a premiership player afterall) that they are valued and not things to be given up on and thrown out when it all gets a little hard.

We have to rejuvenate the list, now

Changes have to be made, or else we will be in 17th spot real fast

Tasmania is not far away

i understand your sentiment, i love Salo, his cafe was close to my home

he is a Premiership Player, but he cannot play at top level anymore

It is a brutal industry

I do miss JJ. Granted his ceiling was low but he was a very consistent performer and his floor was good enough to be a starting player.

He could've helped us so much this season in the midfield.

It's not like he didn't manage to get on the park this year. He's played 14 games.

We've also rejuvenated the best 22 the last two years. It's now JVR, Turner, McVee, Howes, AMW, Kolt, Windsor with Jefferson in the wings and Woey getting games.

What we need is to address our midfield deficiencies. I know they're pace and ball use, but we should be trying to get two picks in the top 20 this year (ideally 2 in the top 10 as @middleagedemon suggests), and picking the two best ball winning mids from the top 10-20.

I'd like us to add Cumming if we can to our back half despite his injury history as well, and that is plenty of rejuvenation given Yze will also likely to be picked as a rookie, and we have an elite sounding NGA ruck/forward and KPD F/S next year.

I'd be putting guys into surgery now to make sure all our guns are ready to hit pre season running as hard as possible.

I'm also not scared of Tasmania, as the whole league has to deal with that prospect and we have plenty of our talent. We just need to beef up our midfield, so that's this year and next as far as I'm concerned.

Is there a point in that? I don't really get the strategy.

It’s a bad move because Salem is a much loved teammate and giving him away for a draft pick we probably won’t use, is going to have a net negative effect.
I don’t think he can ever be best 22 again given where his body is at, but likewise I don’t think a third round pick is going to make a bigger difference to our overall list.

Of course if we could get a good second rounder or he can become part of a trade for a player we need like a big bodied ruck, then I’d be very open to trading him.

Is this revisionism? How did you feel about JJ the last 2 years? Probably like many of us, that he wasn't much better than fringe 22.

I like JJ too, but you're kidding yourself if you think JJ would have managed anymore than he'd previously managed in a top 4 team 3 years in a row.

Of course we won't trade him, but I'm just trying to understand the intellectual argument for trading him.

I think Dazzler might be letting frustration cloud some judgement.

He'd be better than Sparrow that's for sure.

The way I felt about him was similar to the way I feel about Sparrow. And yes it is a bit revisionist. However both him and Sparrow had the opportunity to prove their worth this season, one stepped up ... the other, well you know.

This happens every season when we don’t win a flag. Everyone wants to get rid of the coach, the players, the CEO, the president, the cleaner and the lady who makes the sandwiches.

I have mentioned JJ a number of times, once again, he is given free passage to go the Swans, making them stronger and we are left with Casey Regulars

It’s like a 12 point turnaround

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres
