Time to go Goody?

Everyone wanted Goody sacked in 2020. Including he who shall not be named.

What's more, at least one poster on this site argued after we'd won the first 5 or so games on the trot in 2021 (!!!) that that would be an opportune time for us to sack Goodwin.  [censored].

Personally I’d love the club to bring in Jason Akermanis as an assistant. Success follows him.

Was at a lunch a fortnight ago and with Alastair Lynch and he talked about Akermanis and from what he said I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our club.

Not sacked, maybe calls to geld Horse…Swans might run better that way.😳

We love you Goody. Our coach. Our premiership winning coach. To quote one Jack Viney after our grand final win: “I’m so grateful that you came to our footy club”

He is probably the best coach in the league and has been remarkably consistent so i’d say not

I told you JJs single possession after a quarter and a bit would have solved our midfield woes this year!

What makes him the best coach in the league? He’s only won 1 flag in what, 13 years?

Would Sydney be this consistent in terms of finals appearances if they weren’t afforded talent for peanuts via the academies?

just my opinion. 4 GFs in 13 years but agree they have crazy advantage with academies

He generally fronts up a hard solid team with a good game plan. aside from tonight that is!

Imagine the melts here if Goody lost 3 GFs!

He is a brilliant coach, please don’t think I don’t rate him. I really do. But if we judge a coach on flags and flags alone, he isn’t better than Goodwin. And it seems that’s what everyone wants to judge Goodwin on so…

As you said, the ridiculous advantage they’ve gained from the academies tho, means that Longmire has it easier than a lot of other coaches.

I don't think Jaded is saying Longmire isn't a good coach, just that he is made to look better by their ridiculous advantages.

And you gotta say, his GF record is unenviable.

The season looks like it’s shot.
But even if it’s not, there is no point throwing all of the toys out of the cot after a few bad games.
It’s damn hard to win these premierships because every other bastard is trying to win as well.
If EVERYTHING doesn’t go perfectly, you’re [censored].
We have not had a perfect year. Far from it.
Decent teams don’t throw it in after a little hardship - they dig in and improve. Otherwise you will never have sustained success and Scott, Hardwick, Clarkson etc would be lucky if they had 1 flag each.

Last night the Season was on the line

The first 10 Centre Clearances were won by Footscray

Where does that put the mindset of the Players and Coaches?

They had checked out and didn’t show up but it’s alright because they’re all still mates 🙄

Yeah sorry I realise you were probably aiming that post at the Goody bashers

I dont know if I want a change in head coach. I’ll always love Goody but a change might be needed soon

If you believe rumours, there is a reason why Horse is called Horse.

Carey was called Duck for a reason too

Hunter taking up a spot in the team alienated JJ, took Gus away from his wing role, lowered our team speed, lowered our overall hardness level. The league was only getting faster and we decided to get a guy who sat way outside and chipped it 30m.

And that’s without even the impact he might’ve had on our off field culture.

Tomlinson played a bunch of decent games when we had the best team defence you’ll ever see and dominated field position. In a role that he was never recruited to play because he failed miserably as a winger. It was a panic move after 2019 to try to find a second winger. 5 years when he was dropped from the giants first finals team because he was too slow even then.

The love that JJ gets from some posters on DLand makes me wonder about myself : was I watching a potential Brownlow medallist and not knowing it?

Actually, no I wasn't.

As for Tomlinson: he got a chance and took it. What's wrong with that? Then injury cruelled him. He always tries.

Where’s Sydney? They haven’t showed up either. In fact I think they forgot to board the plane.

Turn the straight sets seasons into GF losses and they're basically the same coach

Agree they’re hugely off tonight however they are still on top of the ladder with an unbelievable percentage (at the moment).

Good lord. On page six of this thread you’ve posted the same post four times! You’re flattering the length of this thread but that’s unnecessary for there’s no shortage of Goody-bashers with a lot to say.

I’ve had very old replies cached and pre populate responses to totally different threads

some of the site’s behaviour on Firefox / iOS is weird

Although he does look like he’s picked up something nasty from Essendon that’s causing him to [censored] the bed atm. We’ll see if he can find something to put a plug in it.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
