Obviously. Would this week be ok to start?

Ok then.

Was our list in 2022 and 2023 as a whole better than Richmond’s in 2017-2020 or Hawthorn’s 2013-2015.

Short answer is No! We had a gun back line and midfield and a bits and pieces forward line.

We did well to get the jump on the comp in 2021 but we were very quickly figured out in 2022 onwards.

We dominated inside 50s & have been butchering the ball going into our fwd line, correct teams worked us out & Goody hasn’t been able to fix it, last 3 premiers are contending we are heading for another bottom 6 finish with so called stars ageing.. but hey let’s accept another season of the same

Better late than never 😉

95% of list has gone backwards this year. How many years of forward line problems is it now?

No reward for effort for Casey players. If someone is dropped they are back after a week despite how they play at Casey.

Culture seems non-existent and on decline since GF win.

Inability to integrate any Players acquired from other clubs.

Inability to implement a new game plan that works straight away or at all.

Thanks so much for the Premiership but it's time Goody.

Why do people say this like winning flags is easy. It drives me nuts.

How many have Brisbane won recently despite being a top team for years? 1.

How many have Geelong won recently despite being a top team most years? 1.

How many times has Sydney won from their last 5 times playing in that the GF? 0.

How did Collingwood go after winning in 2023? Didn't make finals.

I’m Not sure the poster said it was easy

It’s certainly not unreasonable to say we should have at least one more

Others May point to some team selections in finals

We haven't even made Prelim though. It's all well and good to say flags are hard to win but we should have been at least competing for them by making the final 4.

We were competing for them. We made the final 6 instead of the final 4. It’s worse, but not that much worse.

If we’d lost consecutive prelims in 22-23, this board would be saying the exact same thing about Goody: “won a flag then couldn’t even win a single prelim”.

@seventyfour is right. Winning flags is hard. It’s frankly insane how many people on here roll out the whole “we should have won multiple flags” line. At the end of this year, at least three of the following will be true:

  1. Collingwood will have won 1 flag from 4 seasons under McRae, despite having a stack of talent and a dream fixture

  2. Brisbane will have won 1 flag from 7 seasons of finals, despite their incredibly talented list

  3. Geelong will have won 1 flag in the last 14 years under Chris Scott, despite being in the Danger/Cameron/Stewart era

  4. the Dogs will have won 0 flags in 9 years despite having a list and midfield depth to die for

They all have re-invented themselves to remain competitive and a chance of a flag most seasons. We after the flag went backwards a bit, then backwards a lot with no real sign in sight of reversal because we don't adapt and change like those you mentioned.

That’s not what I’m debating.

We were “a chance for a flag” in 22-23 but these days those seasons get cast away as failures by those who succumb to the “we should have won multiple flags” rhetoric.

And at any rate, for all the reinventing and competing they’ve done, my previous post remains true. If Geelong doesn’t win it this year, that’ll be 1 flag in 14 seasons of them being “competitive” under Scott. I’m not criticising them, I’m merely making the point that flags are hard to win.

Have also heard that Goody comms with the younger players is very poor and has his favourites, Roos built the foundations and I can’t remember ever hearing Goody talk about Roos etc even after the flag!

2012 - 2025 incl. is 14 seasons.

Appreciate that, but 1 in 14 sounds a lot worse than 2 in 15. I guess that was the point....

Yeah I see what you mean. I counted 14 seasons backwards from and including 2025 to 2012. Maybe I conveniently and accidentally on purpose forgot about 2011 😁

We may be the only team in the modern era to have two straight sets out of the finals (top 4 teams only considered).

Mind you, those 4 finals were played at the MCG. So we were playing at our home ground.

Rightly or wrongly, I always view the 2011 flag as the culmination of the Bomber Thompson era of 2007-11.

The Danger/Cameron/Stewart era doesn’t go back to 2011 but even from 2016 when Danger joined them, the same general point remains - one flag from 10 seasons (if they don’t win it this year).

I had heard this to GE, however it was in the pre season and leading up to last season.

Which is no surprise given the turmoil which went on.

The source has confirmed it was sorted out amongst the group and with the involvement of Goody and Greeny.

I trust the source yet I’m aware that in every team and player group you will always have unhappy players, comms can’t be great can at times mean anything, some players don’t like what they are being told and you will always get personally clashes

Yet that view on here with regards to Thompson to Scott is a convenient argument for many who want to believe Goody inherited a gun list from Roos.

TU you will never win or even reach middle ground with a few on here

It's bizarre isn't it? People don't respect our drought breaking, premiership coach

I have no problem with people having a go at him or wanting change/pointing out the very obvious issues etc

But show him some respect and acknowledge the good he has done

For the most part the greater majority do recognise and acknowledge the Flag. What many seem to be doing is living in the past and not acknowledging the present. .

I've lost hope & so have thousands of other supporters who will not sign up or attend games.

Reminds me of 1976 when a late run saved Bob Skilton who should have been sacked but was kept on & wasted all of 1977.

Jeez the Conga line of Goodwin acolytes & apologists is pretty resilient - reminds me of the Rev Jim Jones episode.

FWIW my mates who have been members for 50+ years now refer to him as Goodie the 🤡

Not the only one. Brisbane too - they went out straight sets in 2019 and 2021.

And I maintain that “final 4” or “final 6” are both “competing for the flag”. And that if we had made prelims and lost them, you would be running the exact same argument now - “two failed prelims”.

I think it was Barassi who said something along the lines of, in any team you will have a group of happy players, a group of unhappy players and a group of undecided players.

The art of coaching is to keep the unhappy players away from the undecided players.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
