Agreed, must win the winnable’s. I think we can beat Collingwood, Adelaide, Hawthorn and the GC on our current, low injury trajectory. The Dogs look awesome atm and I love watching the way they play so I think they’re the toughest match up. Carlton also seem to keep finding away to beat us since Kozzies 22 heroics. The Pies are the ones who keep finding a way to win against basically all opposition. I reckon as much as Goodwin only has Sydney on his mind he’ll have been working on ways to beat them. Staying injury free is the key. We get a charmed run and then it’s game on baby!

Oh yeah, for those at the club it's a game at a time

Where as we can speculate and it won't make an ounce of difference

We live in hope

👍Can’t wait for the KB game. It really looks as a must win for me. As confidence builds so does the need to keep winning. I watch Essendon and North play and just think how the hell did we lose those matches??

What ever happened to one game at a time??

The Dees Management need to set a high standard when selecting a senior coach. A contract needs to be based on the coaches and staff performance(success). i.e 3-4 finals and 1 grand final every five years. Goodwin's contract would have been over this year , no need to keep him for 2026 or to pay him out.

Let me know when you find a coach like that.

Just sayin....

I’m on holiday the next few weeks so I’m looking ahead ! I know that’s not allowed. Just see me as the forward scout without the badges and weird neck tie thing they wear.

We're still going to lose games, even "winnable" games, and there'll still be bumps in the road going forward. This year is about consolidating a different way of playing and slowly turning over the team, where progress in those goals has to be judged over the longer term, not week by week.

One factor that hasn't been mentioned almost anywhere is that we've effectively turned over the whole coaching staff with either new people or new responsibilities. That was never going to come together overnight.

It's not just the players who have had to get used to a new(er) way of doing things.

As Ronald Dale would say...... Possesions u give me possesions and I'll Shut up

Well ditto Goodwin if we dont play finals it must be ALL OVER!

Overall, I’m happy we’ve righted the ship. At 0-5 and off field dramas it was looking like a disaster of St kilda type proportions. If we sacked Goodwin then like many wanted we would have spiraled downwards.

Goodwin to his credit has knuckled down and got the team playing well. No injuries has helped for sure. we are 4-1 from the last 5 and finally gave a fairly settled 22

Not sure if Goody is the man long term as when you get close to a decade i usually think it’s time to try something new unless you have regular success. But no one can doubt his laser like focus and commitment to the club.

Time for luxurious holidays but we are still waiting on a training report Roost

It was a very good win aginst Brisbane. Our ball movement was definitely better but my concern is that Brisbane didn't really pressure us that much, particularly in the last quarter and when teams pressure us that's when the game plan starts to falter, we miss targets, we start bombing it in and we end up with a dysfunctional forward line. So I'm going to wait and see how we go when the pressure comes.

I'd argue we can win in multiple ways. We're developing a few different approaches and a few different gear shifts.

If we chip the ball around at the back, when the opposition presses, they open up space behind them for us to play into.

If we go long down the line, we have Max.

I'd be intrigued to hear what you think our game plan is and why you think it's any more susceptible to pressure than any other game plan in the league.

It's not clear if it's the actual game plan that's susceptible or it's a mental thing or something else but for whatever reason the game plan crashes under pressure, but we'll see what happens against Collingwood, they'll definitely bring the heat

I’ve taken on the role as supervisor of the training reports. I realise it’s unpaid and largely unwanted but I do it for the people.

You would've sacked Sheedy after the 92 season right?

Also the goal kicking was only marginally better this week with gettable goals being missed

great win but need to back it up under real pressure

Put me at half back for the Dogs and I'll give you 49 per game.

The brutality that is EPL will probably still see Ange looking for another gig despite holding the UEFA cup up high.

I'm not Mr Goodwins greatest advocate in fact advocacy has never crossed my mind . ( 21 was a Goodwin good win... with "help" though )

As suggested before the normal and more obvious yardstick of finals won't be a reasoned measure. Those familiar with stats and I hate the analogy here , as most stats in football abhor me, but the trends you can see in graphs etc are what we need to look for as the season progresses.

If indeed we get traction ( tracc-tion even 🙄) and we start trending with better footy, better results more wins ... then... reality says ... keep going.

Conversely... if it does transpire... that's the other reality.

For now I'll go sit in the cheap seats , on the fence and see what manifests.

Go Dees

Just want to win.

I agree. When teams don't pressure us the game plan looks great.

not a good analogy

the UEFA cup is a low quality competition.

the final was contested by the teams that will likely finish 16th and 17th in the EPL. they have both been rotten. united sacked their manager in season so unlikely to sack another. Ange will be lucky to survive. he has no plan B

goody has won a flag. assisted as you say but what coach does not have assistance. it's always a team effort

I understand your point... perhaps you misconstrued mine .

I came to Oz late 64.. my father, his brother, sister, dad ...all Tottenham supporters... in some ways I was probably destined to be a Melbourne tragic lol. We don't have many alternatives in AFL though I recall a night footy cup... an e cup of some weird description...or similar 🤷‍♂️

Ange HAS done wonders... many will be aghast if he's sacked but that seems the way... little leeway. So Ange has brought long time overdue Silverware. Yeah it's not EPL... but it's a little known savour for Spurs supporters. They'll take it and party.. I really couldn't give a [censored] about soccer these days but to be with family there and celebrate... yeah !!

Meanwhile.. Dees. Here we are.If you don't understand how Ooze co-opted that flag well.. let's organise a time and place ...have a drink and mull over it.

its about how we understand what occurs

Don't do the comparison literally... but emotively.. maybe 🤷‍♂️

Ange has overseen a team that is one spot from regulation. Not really apt comparison given the EPL essentially doesn't have a salary cap.

Of course Spargo GIFTED another game FFS perrenial favourite!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
