Go back and watch the Simpson interview, where he went through trying to change the way WCE players - and admitted that it failed. And it failed because he didn't have the players who could play the way they were trying.

Plenty of other examples as well.

Of course Simpson doesn't have a vested interest in trying to paint it as a player/list issue rather than coaching issue.

Sometimes you have to coach to win the game, not coach to win the flag in 3-5 years.

Go back and watch the Simpson interview, where he went through trying to change the way WCE players - and admitted that it failed. And it failed because he didn't have the players who could play the way they were trying.

Standards at the MFC have slipped badly, the only time we were a dam good side was whilst Burgess was at the helm, driving hi performance. “You will play with pain and drive yourself through it”

Since he has left we are back to Close enough is good enough….

Goodwin’s gameplan is a farce if we can only kick 6 goals against North and lose by 10 goals.

Do you think the gameplan is going to look any different tomorrow??

We have all been conned the last 2-3 years, we have to sweep a large broom through the whole club, trouble is finding elite replacements will be very difficult, because nobody really wants to come here….

I am actually quite concerned for tomorrow. I am also starting to feel genuinely concerned for the wellbeing of the club. 10k members down vs this time last year. Small crowds. 0-5. No first round pick.

I just can't see how Goodwin coaches his way out of this. Pert and Roffey already fell on their swords. Things come in threes. Goodwin just seems like the inevitable third. It's almost like we have to fully move on from the remnants of the Jackson/Roos era.

We had 25k against GWS and 24,5k against the Suns and in Adelaide against Essendon for our home game, another solid crowd.

By comparison, Hawthorn at 14k in Tassie against GWS.

By comparison, Essendon got 25k at Marvel against Port.

We are a disaster off field, but this year, we've had reasonable crowds so far.

You're not alone in thinking this. We have just come off our best period in 6 decades and still losing members at a phenomenal rate, 2x sub 20k crowds last year, booted from prime time etc

We would want a decent crowd/showing next week vs the Tiges or the AFL will look at whether we should maintain that fixture. They'll also be looking in the longer term whether we should be playing all home games at the G. Carlton and Essendon (and the Saints) all want more home games at the G so someone will have to make up those Docklands fixtures (and it won't be Collingwood, Richmond or Hawthorn).

I have been a massive Goody supporter but take this to the bank, we can't sack him until we appoint a CEO.

It doesn't matter if we miraculously win the next 10 games straight he is gone.

There are alot of Melbourne ex players who's names don't normally come up that want him gone and it has nothing to do with the game plan.

Hopefully we sort this mess up before Kalani White makes his decision.

Essendons crowd against Port was poor but was also a Thursday night game (no school hols at that stage).

Our crowds vs GWS and Suns were weekend Arvo slots. Tomorrow the same. Yes GWS game was against the grand prix but first game of the year we still should be getting at least 30k to these games, that should be the bare minimum. Last year we got around half that against the Giants and Port.

Plus the gather round game against Essending has a stack of mutal supporters from other clubs.

You could clearly see that in the crowd.

Plenty of examples of teams being able to change much more successfully than we have. Its a [censored] excuse for a team that expected to play finals this year.

But, yes the Eagles also failed. Hopefully we act before we drive our list into the ground like they did.

Agreed.

Simpson said they liked how Port attacked so got Port folk in but their attempts at a system change still failed as they didn't have the right players. Longmire on the other hand got the attacking Don Pyke to 'balance his own defensive' leanings (paraphrasing) and they went on to play in GF, albeit it they wilted badly when they got there..

Who did Goodwin get to help implement a new system and 'balance his own defensive' leaning? No one! And we didn't learn from WCE of a new system without the players needed to execute it.

And really if we look at the CV of our assistant coaches they are rather Meh! Haven't looked too closely at the assistants at other clubs but reckon ours, collectively would be close to the worst in the league in terms of variety of experience and directing change.

No wonder we are where we are.
