I'm actually getting tired of bashing JVR around in the ruck. I know the cupboard is bare but it's actually getting annoying now.

I totally agree. Max said in a recent video he rates him as a ruck, but you can find adequate rucks elsewhere. Above average tall forwards are much rarer.

One thing that frustrates me apart from the fact it must take a toll on is body is us getting the ball at half back and me thinking "OK, where's JVR?" And the answer is behind or near the player with the ball because he's playing in the ruck.

When you kick the ball into the forward half of the ground as poorly as we do, it's so important to have someone who can compete in the air.

You’d probably look at Tomlinson back for this one as a like for like for May. He seems to play well on his return game from the VFL, but struggles the game after and then finds himself back to square one.

I also think T Mac might be dropped for this one. Somehow scored a player rating score below 0 and has really struggled in our last 3 losses.

Time to go Goody! Nominated-replacements for Goody and Greg Stafford on the way to their job interview with Kate Roffey.

Will we see BBB in on of our last 2 home games?

I know it's not exactly a an eye on the future type selection but would be nice to get him a goodbye game.

As i was typing my post I had a feeling you would reply aha.

You need to add Jeffo to your Favourite Players list on your profile.

It's robbing Peter to pay Paul and I know Jacob is a physical player who can handle some punishment but he's valuable merchandise for the future. You don't take your Bentley off-road driving.

Imagine if we shut down Max for a few weeks and JVR ends up doing some kind of injury in the ruck which could eat into his pre season. I know we're stuck, I know we have few other options but it would be nice to be non-reckless for a change.

Not to mention (assuming we're going to continue to bomb it into the forward line) we'd be eliminating one of the guys that actually has a chance of marking the ball.

I’m just turning up to watch Dan Houston…

Personally, if I could, I would create a banner for him - I think you should create a banner for him or maybe get @WalkingCivilWar in on the action.

Maybe something like

"Dan Houston, your long kicking is a form of art

Feel the vibes of a members wing

And don't forget

Hells Bells, is better than

Never Tear Us Apart"

Well Goodwin seems to think we still have a chance at finals and says he'll put off other condsiderations till there is 0 chance.  I wonder if he means it.  Selections tomorrow will probably tell

If they're not playing Jefferson this week, then give BBB a game.

He played his one of his best games for the MFC in the 'business trip' and Bulldogs supporter were actually relieved that he wasn't playing last week, such is the trouble BB has caused them since 2021.

Port have an undersized defence now that Ratugulea has moved forward, so maybe his height could cause them an issue.

Pickett you and Goody are now on the same page. Straight from the horse’s mouth at today’s presser. He’s getting closer and closer all the time. We’re rapt with JEFFO… Whether that’s a game this week or in the coming weeks, we’ll wait and see.”

From the presser today it appears Tomlinson will come in for May. Petty will stay up forward. No players will be rested or others gifted games while there is a mathematical chance we can still make the 8.

I cannot see many changes this week. On a different note and not an excuse, last week we had 5 players who have never played a game at marvel stadium. Small wonder they looked lost.

How about:

Dan stick with the plan and be a Dee.

If you don't, Houston, we have a problem.

Can we get someone to make up a dees guernsey with Houston's name and number on the back and dangle it over their players as they run out? It [censored] me to tears when that Freo flòg did that to us re. Jackson in '22.

sadly leaning towards no jeffo debut this week since theres been no announcement, but still holding out hope

I guess the big question on everyone’s mind is can Petty crack the 10 goal milestone as a permanent key forward by season end?

I'd be very surprised if McAdam plays another game for the club this year, perhaps ever.

I tend to agree.  Did he get a 2 or 3 year contract?  Unfortunately either way only one has been served.

One of the posts of the year.  👏👏👏

JVR is our only effective tall forward and we burn him out in the ruck - makes little sense. Yes, he is our second best ruck, but having him forward in the short, medium and long term is surely a higher priority.

I don't think he had any real preseason and got injured early in season so was behind eight ball and looked unfit.

lets see what full preseason does for him,  Clarry, Spargo, Salem......

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
