Absolutely no way Salem should play again this year. How many times has broken down and left us a man short?

Tomlinson for May makes sense, but Hore is another backwards move. He's another who is likely to injure himself in the first quarter.

I can't believe Melksham gets to front up again after two woeful performances, but it helps being mates with the coach. I'd rather see Howes or AMW get a run on the wing and KBrown up forward, than Melksham get another game.

All in all, very ordinary changes.

‘Premiership gun’ 😂 Who gives a [censored] if he played in the premiership or not we’re three years past it champ. Hasn’t even been ‘good’ for three years. Should we bring Ben Brown in cause he was a ‘premiership gun’ ? Shocking take

If it makes you feel better the people who want him in will likely be defending him for being underdone when we lose.

Perhaps Dostoevsky’s ‘Crime and Punishment’ should be on the reading list too. A barrel of laughs apparently. Keeping on topic Dostoevsky also wrote ‘Demons’ another ripper novel.

With respect our season finished last Friday; and on that effort some players have checked out for this year.

There is still a mathematical chance of sneaking into eighth spot.

Yes, I know it's a slim chance. But I do not believe any of our players would "check out" while that lingering hope is there.

And even if we lose to Port, I believe the players have enough pride in the guernsey to give of their best.

Sometimes, let's face it, even our best is not good enough. With May, Windsor and Petracca missing and even the over-worked and much-battered Supermax struggling, that's when the team most needs the backing of every true fan.

Go the Dees!

The questions to ask:

- What do we have to lose by playing AMW and/or Howes at this point?

- What do we gain by not playing them and going to the well again?

And alternatively:

-What do we gain by playing them?

Fair call about Salem continually breaking down.

Our fitness guru didn’t exactly sound convincing about Salem’s availability this week.

Whilst mathematically possible our chances of making the 8 are practically zero.

AMW has struggled at times but he needs the experience.

Play the kids should be the go from here

I'm going to the captains run at Gosches on Friday. However the time says TBC in the website. I'm guessing the time is usually at 9.45am.

They still haven’t updated the website, SB. Captain’s run usually starts at 9:30am but that’s subject to change (and oftentimes it does).

PS: could you please do a training report? 😅

One of the best books ever written by one of the best authors ever to have lived.

PS: love that you spelled his name correctly 🙂

Mates with the coach, huh. Ugh that’s sooooo hackneyed; it’s been done to death. You can’t come up with something new? Come on, use your imagination! Here’s one to kickstart your little mind: Melks pays Goody cold-hard every week, he effectively buys a place in the side. I know right, pretty good. Now it’s your turn? Whaddya got?

Right??!! But I’m glad Melks is his mate coz he’s my favourite player 😃 Don’t worry though, PF. Give Goody a bit more time to get to know Jeffo and I’m sure he’ll be guaranteed selection too.

🙄

For those that keep a close eye on the oppo's ins/outs each week, when was the last time our opposition lost a key player to injury heading into our game. Seems like key players always come back in for our game, but never go out.

Georgiades is a big out for them.

I've been fiddling with the Ladder predictor all morning and it doesn't look good.

Imagine we won't get much tinkering until perhaps the final game.

Either way i'll be there cheering on the lads

Cannot be bothered watching anymore this year. Neither Tomlinson nor Hore are taking us to the next premiership. Goody is a joke that keeps getting worse.

Your name says it all.  When we lose May I suppose you'd replace him with a small bloke.  Goodwin's options are limited.

He's clearly made the choice to have one last crack at the year no matter how depleted we are.  One can disagree with that.  If we lose this week, we'll be able to have all our young VFL players get a taste.  Though there is a lot to be said for playing our best possible team against C'wood if they have a chance of making the 8.  Would make a nice end to a sad season to keep them out of finals.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!

I've always said there are two things in footy that make me happy.  One is Melb winning.  The other is Coll'wood losing.  And, if it happens in the same match, I'm over the moon.  Now, if it ALSO keeps 'em outa the finals, well that would REALLY make the end of the season sweet!

I would be on board with Goody's stance if our destiny was in our own hands. But this just screams desperation and a wasted opportunity to blood some younger players, rest the injured ones, etc.

Well put.

We know from bitter experience, you should never lie down during a season. But there's a massive difference between playing for draft picks and making sensible decisions to get players ready for next season, and using essentially dead rubbers to try new things.

Tomlinson is actually a good matchup for Dixon, and if you watch Port you know they're quite tall up forward so clearly the height of Hore will be needed over Howes.

As for AMW, he hasn't had great defensive games in the last two weeks, but he's made his debut and shown enough to retain a spot on the list. I am sure he is very happy and very understanding of where he is at. Both he and Howes finally made their long awaited debuts and now have a pre-season to work as hard as possible to build on what they know they lack to be a top AFL player.

It is really rare for players to play full season in their debut years. McVee and Windsor were absolute anomalies, and frankly prior to injury you could see Windsor physically struggling. That is completely ok, and I think most young players now are very realistic about the path to becoming regular senior players.

We've seen loads of even first round picks come in and out of sides regularly, hell even Reid hasn't played every game and his team suuuuucks!

Feel like we will do OK this week be much more competitive than last....not sure we will win but should be up for the fight

It's really disappointing that we spent a second and a third rounder to bring in experienced players and they've played 3 games between them.  It's a bad misstep of due diligence.

I appreciate what Goodwin is trying to do in terms of continuity but he's putting a lot of faith in the concept of cohesion over the concept of aptitude.

That's not to say Fullarton or McAdam are knocking down the door to be picked, but we are jumping up and down on the same spot right now.  Be surprised if we win this week, but it's that sort of season. Why not.

Use the next couple of weeks to rest a couple. Viney for a week and Clarry for a week. Try and be in as good as shape as possible for the filth in the last game.

Excellent reasoning ... be nice to take the Filth to the cleaners in the last round. Give them something to remember - or is that expecting too much from their intellects?

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
