Oliver Trade Rumours

Leaking does not always happen as a matter of dysfunction. It is also done strategically.

For a clue, always ask who stands to gain from this?

Further, who knows the details, in this case the meeting place?

Answers below:

Geelong FC and Geelong FC

That is true, it definitely can be strategic in nature at times.

Can you explain exactly how Geelong gain from leaking this information though? It doesn't strengthen their pitch, in fact it would do quite the opposite - Oliver would feel used knowing they have leaked a confidential meeting. It does no favours to them in their trade relationship with Melbourne. I'm not sure exactly what the benefit would be for them?

In terms of the meeting place - Oliver knows the details. Presumably he would have spoken to his management, family, friends, who knows who else? Plenty of people outside the Geelong Football Club would have heard about it.

What I simply don't understand is why Geelong? Up there with the least likely to be able to facilitate a fair trade.

If we really want him gone shouldn't we be dealing with a club that could actually make it happen.

Bizarre really.

Because Mackie is happy to waste everyone’s time, thinks he’s smarter than everyone else & thinks he can secure himself a bargain. The new Dodoro.

Ah yeah, nothing like a good old straw man to really prove a point.

Well done, a resounding showing of critical thinking.

Incorrect sir,  no straw man here, my comments have complete relevance to the argument.

Oliver's own mother refuted the claims .

This a forum discussion not a published article.

Well done to you for clever derogatory tone as well, very intelligent indeed.

I hope the club makes a complaint to the AFL and threatens to sue the Age for this rubbish , enough is enough.

I think it's passed that point honestly.

The Age have defaced the Melbourne Demons brand by running this disgusting smear campaign re: Oliver. Hopefully our legal team sends them an invoice for cost of all this slander. It's disgraceful.

What are you genuinely talking about?

You’ve gone from stating that the ‘club’ should bring a legal claim against The Age, for ‘lies’, proceeding to ask for a ‘quote’, and now your stating that ‘this is a forum discussion not a published article’, yet your first point is directed at an article published by The Age.

Honestly, it’s beyond nonsensical.

Who’s the straw man now?

If there’s any truth to the rumour that he’s open to a pay cut if it facilitates a trade, that can only mean one of two things:

1. His manager has to have a long talk to him about why that’s insane. He deserves, and needs, every dollar we’ve promised him. He is not someone who should be reckless with his earnings right now.

2. Geelong is offering to make him a Cotton On ambassador or some other dodgy [censored].

I’ll say it again. At this stage a trade is more likely than not.

The supporters on this forum have their heads in the sand.

Oliver doesn’t want to play for Melbourne and is trying to find any chance to leave. Even take a pay cut.

I trust if he stays and has a great 25 season you either apologize for this incorrect statement or get the F out of this site. From your statement it sounds like you are his manager and knows it all.

Asking for clarification on your own contention, using your words, is a straw man?

Okay.

1. But it weakens Melbourne's position.

2: Oliver does not need to know.

3: True, but that the meeting was on was known well before it took place. It was actually announced in the morning prior.

I can't say for sure it was Geelong's doing, but it is entirely plausible because they stood to benefit.

I also find this strange. There are 9 other Melbourne clubs. We would the dees not have shopped him around?

I know there’s no law for publishing lies but there should be.

Of course we have no grounds, but it sucks that they they can say whatever untruths they like with zero consequences Dazzle.

It's a bit like the Queensryche song The Needle Lies:

"Don't, don't you trust, don't ever trust the needle, it lies!"

What a song. What an album for that matter.

So it's alright for you to not adjust your behaviour because "it's just in your nature" but she has to suck it up and adjust her own nature to stay on a forum? That's such a double standard.

Bullying is bullying.

Pretty sure it was suggested that they keep being themself.

Because it sounds like no-one did actually get blind drunk and abuse players. WCW, who was there and was liaising with players refuted that in her post. I think the reactions to that contributed to why she's now left the forum

Read the original post again, the conversation had with OIiver was a drunk one.

You mentioned before that it's not up to one person to decide what bullying is, it's also not up to one person to decide what harassment is and you have no idea if Clayton was ok with that conversation or not.

Absolutely nothing about this makes sense and I'm happy people on Twitter are starting to notice, too.

1. Oliver is happy and ready to go for 2025 in red and blue.

2. Overnight, he is shopped around, and suddenly ends up on a farm on the outskirts of Geelong. Okay?

3. He suddenly wants to get to Geelong. After one meeting on a farm. No tour of facilities. No chat to the coach. Nothing.

4. Now he is willing to take a pay cut. Two sources - one from Geelong and one from his management group - say this on condition of anonymity.

You're telling me this guy wants to leave a $1.5 million a year contract on the table, to take a paycut to play for Geelong? Overnight? Suddenly willing to take a paycut?

Either this is absolute lunacy and just a made up story, or Geelong is pulling serious shifties.

Largely made up

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
