It creates an image about Oliver to me..

2 days ago: “I love the club, owe them a debt.”

2 days later: Shown some pretty paddocks and told he’s the best… “oh that sounds awesome I want to do that”

2 short planks come to mind.

Infuriating. Just one long shambles. I just want to support my footy team, not deal with all the drama.

Exactly this. The footy industry has become like Big Brother. The trade peroid, basically all year round these days, has become so sensationised it could be its own reality TV show.

  • There’s a long shot possibility that Clayton Oliver of Melbourne could join Geelong, pending a decision by the Demons.
  • Melbourne will hold talks to decide Clayton Oliver’s future, which could result in a trade.
  • Melbourne is considering whether trading Oliver would benefit their salary cap and culture reset.
  • Geelong will acquire Jack Martin as a delisted free agent, avoiding a trade for the forward.
  • Geelong’s draft pick #15 is committed to the Bailey Smith deal, limiting their trade assets for Oliver.
  • Melbourne may request a player from Geelong if the Oliver trade progresses, though Shannon Neale is likely off the table.
  • Geelong showed interest in Oliver earlier in 2024, but Adelaide is no longer pursuing him.
  • Melbourne contacted at least one other club regarding Oliver, which may have strained relations with the player.
  • Oliver is intrigued by the idea of moving to Geelong but the club isn’t actively driving the trade.
  • If Oliver, Smith, and Martin join, Geelong’s midfield will be significantly bolstered for 2025.
  • Geelong could offer a future first-round pick for Oliver, but Melbourne would likely request additional compensation.
  • Melbourne might have to cover part of Oliver’s salary if the trade goes through.
  • If compensation isn’t adequate, Melbourne could opt to retain Oliver despite internal issues.

This is actually all bat**** crazy.

After picking up the phone to Geelong knowing they had bugger to trade with AND they already had Bailey Smith in their sights, if Melbourne go “nah, we’re gonna keep him, we don’t like the  look of what you’re offering” that would be the most outrageous, stupid and cruel (to Clarry) thing I’ve have ever witnessed in football. If we had a proper president Pert would get the flick in an instant.

the meetings were private, so private we met at a farm to keep it a secret and now I'm going to leak to the press.

The hills have eyes out that way

Norm Smith curse all over again. The greatest player of the modern era pushed out by an out of touch board.

I never changed my moniker because I suspect the haze of COVID was the only thing that stopped it in 2021.

Absolute clown club

On Sunday night Clarry and the coaches were absolutely positive about the future at Melbourne

today he’s on the way to Geelong and it won’t be for much either

there is nothing functional about the club right now nor is there anything to be proud of.

If you're in the window, Rule No.1 is to never deal with a contender.

We must be in full rebuild mode to even contemplate trading to Geelong.

Hope everyone's ready for the ride. It's all in for 2026/2027 in my view.

After how 2023 ended, then the Oliver saga, then reports about club culture, then the Petracca saga, and now this again, I am already out for at least the first third of next season. I'll still get my AFL membership but I'm not attending games. No club in the league treats its fans with as much contempt as MFC does. I am done for now.

And if they let Oliver walk to Geelong of all places for nothing, it would take nothing short of a Prelim appearance to have been even contemplating returning to the club.

I can't believe we are even in a situation with our 4-tims B&F, multi-award winning and All Australian, premiership winning midfielder is about to walk to [censored] Geelong on a 5 year deal for peanuts in return.

Anyone even trying to justify this is deluded.

I am fine to see OIiver traded but I don't see the point in us paying a huge chunk of salary cap space as part of the deal. We should make it clear to his manager that this is a deal breaker for us and if they can't find a club willing to pay almost all the contract we should shut it down early. We should be prepared to take a token pick to clear him out if it clears us of his future wages.

Clarry is Gawn. It's done.

Being the younger of the midfield dynamic duo we better walk out with a massive gain from somewhere else and Petracca had better not bail as well in 12 months.

Otherwise pull the trigger now I say.

He is managed by the same company as Petracca and Houston.

Rest assured folks. As long as Pert doesn't seek a trade we are in safe hands!

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
