Christ, that’s bad news. If we give up pick 5 for him I’ll be apoplectic.

As we shouldn't.

We're not crying out for a player of Houston's ilk.

We're screaming out for a player of Houston's ilk.

I’ve always thought Cumming, Perryman and Lukosius were the keys to Port lowering their asking price.

If Port land 2 out of 3 (or more) of those targets their cap will be overflowing. At which time you make a pragmatic decision to sell now on Houston. Especially when you’re bringing in free agents or discounted price key forward.

An early second and a future first is the kind of price I’d pay for Houston.

Be that as it may, we’re still in his managers ear.

How do we keep our top 5 pick, get another in the first round and Houston? Am I being greedy?

He's not always wrong. Future first and Crom second probably enough.

I reckon that’s pretty fair.

Port will gamble on us being bottom 6 again, so essentially pick 6 and 22 valuation for Houston.

We absolutely should be chasing Houston,

He said its based of no inside information at all but more so just his own personal thought.

It would be some backflip for Houston to say he's staying himself and flip and come to vic. Hope our own number 5 doesn't get any ideas.

Both can backflip and both can be told no trade will be done.
As always, everyone has a price.

Medias need to beat up stories to keep AFL interest up. I would prefer to use pick 6.

If we are desperate for a Back who can play KP, stopper, interceptor, great closing pace with mid like stats why wouldn't we just pick Trainor and get a decade and save the other pick Houston would cost.

Houston was our main guy before he walked away, and we've been dealing with Trac Nibbler and Kozzie since
Only natural we'd still be interested if he was open to it.

I hope we don;t touch 5 though

F1st maybe, then with something else. We will trade Tomlinson to Saints possibly to not dilute their Battle compo. There will be other things happening and depends on if Houston wants us and if he can push hard enough.

Then to get another top 20 pick we use 25 for ANB, bundled with Grundy pick which I think we still have.

Pretty confident we won’t.

I hope not either.

But still, Houston is a reigning two time All Australian who can nail the passes from half back that nobody in our side can dream of doing, and would also solve our deplorable inside 50 entries when given the opportunity.

He would transform our side I believe, and assist greatly in our offensive game plan. he would set the field up with his kicking from defensive 50. Something that Salem and Bowey should be doing consistently but don't.

Pick 5 will likely (but not 100%) be a great player for our club. Houston will 100% be a great player for us.

Port will need to soften on their asking price.

I wouldn't if i was them

With Trac and Kozzy re-committing.

Doesn't surprise me that Houston may still pull the trigger for the deal.

Hell no.

But we aren't the only ones in the gun.

POWER ‘AMENABLE’ TO STAR TRADE

Could Dan Houston be about to do a Tom Barrass?

It’s been well documented that Eagles star Tom Barrass backflipped on a previous statement that he was committed to staying at West Coast, as news surfaces of his desire to be traded to Hawthorn this upcoming trade period.

Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph hasn’t ruled out Port Adelaide gun Dan Houston doing something similar.

“He’s going to do a Tom Barrass isn’t he? He’s going to definitively say that I was staying until they pull the rug out and then he’s going to move,” Ralph began on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle.

“He was adamant on the weekend he was staying at the Power, he said all the right things and I understand that, let’s not hang him for it, but look, his partner is in Melbourne, it’s not that she wants to move back and I think he’s very much aware of the fact he’d like to be there,” he continued.

“I think Port Adelaide is realizing that if they can get a trade done for him for the right price, that they will do that. We shouldn’t lose our minds over it, so they’re amenable to the trade.”

Despite previous reports indicating Houston’s desire to land at Melbourne had fizzed, Ralph can’t help but think there’s still a possibility given Melbourne’s recent positive news surrounding the likes of Christian Petracca and Kysaiah Pickett.

“It’s a holding statement right now. They’ve got the cap space… I know there’s intent there, Melbourne’s got pick 5. I know that he’s officially cooled on that, but I just keep thinking, Petracca’s back, Kozzy Pickett’s not going anywhere, this is not informed mail, but I just keep thinking is there a way he finds himself at Melbourne next year?” Ralph posed.

Another option for Houston should he actually want to return to Victoria would be St Kilda.

“If they do get pick 8 for compensation for the departing Josh Battle, that’s a big if right now, I think that they would give it up for Dan Houston. He’s 27, he’s got six or seven good years left. He’s a dual All-Australian,” Ralph said.

“You might have to throw in a sweetener pick. I just think about what it does for this half back line, Jack Sinclair, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Dan Houston it’s a dynamic a half-back line, it’s turbo charged, it’s volcanic,” he said.

Houston’s inclusion would allow one of that trio to spend more time in the midfield as pressure continues to mount on coach Ross Lyon to bring the Saints back to the promised land.

“He doesn’t have to sell the farm or sacrifice the future if you’re bringing in a 27-year-old who let’s face is, is absolutely elite.

Could Houston be the big fish the Saints are so desperate to land?

I am truly staggered by the lack of interest around here in Houston.

"we dodged a bullet", one poster said.

If missing out on a genuine A grader is "dodging a bullet" then I need to follow another sport.

Do people not watch Port games?

This guy is a genuine star of the game as validated by his back to back All Australian blazers. We're not just talking about sneaking into the squad like a Massimo D'Ambrossio. We're talking back to back starting 18.

He will dramatically improve the MFC next year and he's in the age bracket which suggests he's in the peak of his career. His ball use is exactly what we need.
