You are underestimating the effect that losing someone like Brown would have as he has always been with the club. Someone such as Bizzell may not be as bad as he has come from elsewhere.

The issue with these two players is probably moot. I doubt either will get a contract extension at year's end, and they'll go down in the books as "retired".

Farmer wanted to go home and there was nothing we could do. As far as Woewodin and our present situation is concerned, we'd need to identify a current much-loved under-performing, over-paid player on our list for a valid comparison. Is there one?

Didn't Sylvia get arrested for just that? Sorry this is going off topic. P.S. we didn't pick up Green with the woey trade the two were already teammates in 2000. I'll leave it up to someone more knowledgeable about our list management history to fill in the details.

Not the Woey trade, we got Green via the Farmer trade if my memory isn't failing me.

woewoden or daniel bell? who would people prefer?

craig ellis or troy simmonds? hmmmm

Woewodin any day. Of course he was crap at Collingwood they had him playing on the wing didnt they? When he is clearly a midfielder. Poor guy bloody legend though. Woewodin had a meeting with ND at the end of last year and was so close to coming back I could taste it but fell through. Unfortunate. And for the record Woewodin talked Yze into staying last year

Don't you remember writing the above mentioned quote where you say Trading Bruce and McLean is like trading two Judd's.

Read it again. I wrote Bruce + McLean + PICK 1-3 (which is about what you said we'd need to trade for Judd). Jeeez.

There are very few failures with picks 1-3.

Daniel Bell ... easily. He's got a long career in front of him and is already performing well in a backline that needs him.

Trading Bruce, McLean and a top 3 pick is like trading two Judds for Judd. Stupid if you ask me, and grossly over-exaggerated.

oh okay, sorry, you meant that the top 3 pick was the other Judd, sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you were referring to Bruce as the other Judd.

Yeah, I'm going to have side with Maurie and Rhino on this......

Sometimes losing something or someone important can have an upside, and this could well be a case in point.

I adore Daniel Bell, he is what we need and I truly believe he will be a great, and long-serving, player for us.

Damn them Pies they had him stuck way out on the wing out of the action when all this time he was a midfielder.

What's your source about the ND/Woey meeting and the talk of him coming back. What role and why did it fall through?

Where was Yze going? Whats your source (or sauce if you can taste it)?

That's OK.

McLean's ¾ of a Judd, Pick 1-3 is ¾ of a Judd and Bruce is ½ a Judd. Will that do? :)

Nah you got it all wrong, he was clearly too devestated to play well

Now as I understand it, at the time of the Woewodin decision, it came down to him, or keep all of Leoncelli, Junior and Robbo. We had massive salary cap issues and something had to give.

Given that Junior and Robbo both went on to win AA spots and B&Fs, and we also got Daniel Bell, I think we came out as clear winners in this one.

And as many people already said, the Farmer decision came down to him. We did everything we could to keep him, but he wanted to go home.

All comes from Woewodins mouth. My brother had a chat to him at the Casino, he said Yze was going to leave because the contract they offered him was rubbish and he wasnt willing to take it and Woey said he had a chat to Yze and said he should stay. They are still great friends as their daughters were born together. He said he had a meeting with ND as he wanted to come back in some capacity and he was actually very positive that it would happen which obviously it didnt.

Look clearly Bell is a better player than Woewodin is currently, I just rue the day we lost him, I think if he hadve stayed he wouldve been greater than Bell would be now. However I do salute week in week out Bells contribution to the team

I'll just clarify a couple of things that have been said thus far regarding the Farmer trade. He had made his mind up to move on at the end of the 2001 season, but was adamant that Melbourne be compensated for his departure. I believe it was pick 18 we acquired for him, and the reason this was all we were able to get for him was that we needed West Coast to come to the party to show an interest to up his bargaining price. Unfortunately, they had Phil Matera and didn't show an interest.

Brad Green was picked up in the 1999 draft at 19 and had nothing to do with the Farmer trade.

Think you are right Pantaloons

Farmer and Green played together in the forgettable 2000 GF loss

From memory we got the draft pick for Green, via trading Troy Longmuir

I beleive the pick we got for Farmer, went towards the complicated Bizzel/Grgic trade

i am up for trading one of either Green or Bruce..as well as those u mentioned

how predictable someone idiot would bring up trading bruce, our best, most consistent and most talented player on our list.

get some brains pimple-popper... bruce must stay at melbourne

(green i'm not as strong on keeping, because i do not see him as being as important to the team as bruce is, but would still like to keep him in red and blue.)

Exactly- never get rid of Bruce..by far our most damaging midfielder- Green is too defensive and is a poor decision maker

Looks like Yze ripped us off again. He should thank Woey in spades as Yze should only have been given 2 years and if around next year should be on no more than match payments.

If there was a choice between Paul Williams and Woey I still know who I would take. I am not sure what value a self absorbed footballer like Woey would provide to MFC as he showed at 2 clubs he clearly had little judgement and a lack of maturity in where he stood as a footballer. He was the last one to realise it had passed him by. And it was sort of tragic in the end.

AH I knew you would say that re: Yze. I think we should be grateful to Woey it wouldve been our loss. Woey was a great player but my point orginally was that if we lost someone decent that most of the clueless people here want (I am talking about Bruce, Green etc) then it would do more damage than good. Do not underestimate how the playing group felt re the Woewodin situation. And a lot of supporters were upset too (obviously me).

What does it all matter about team cohesion and all that? Fact is, at the end of this year, we'll have a new coach and everyone's going to be playing for their spot on the list. I think we're long overdue for a serious shake up. ND I admire your work but your time is up.

Its been our loss to carry and overpay a downhill skier like Yze.

I guess your situation is lets not trade anyone even though they are fading as footballers and keep him til they fall over.

Hell, we wont move forward but as long as we happy little vegemites.....

Gee Rhino, I threw you a Dorothy Dixer way back in Post #77 and you took until now to mention Yze. ;)

No there are some players that perhaps there time is up. Yze is clearly not one of them, he was on fire against the Bulldogs and was a pleasure to watch. Most supporters I know adore him (perhaps not yourself) and I love how when he has the ball we all go "OOOZE". Im sorry that my attachment to players seems to upset you, I dont view them as a machine to be chewed up and spat out when the going gets tough unlike some.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
