I agree, although he's listed on the ground, so he's playing in the 22. But to be fair to Woey, we have yo yo'd him in and out for 12 months. Hard to get continuity going with that.

He was fantastic against Carlton as the sub. That needs to be his baseline.

I don't really like him at half back and looks much better as a high half forward. He needs to be clean and take the first option and compete better in one on ones.

I thought he looked good at half back against Brisbane at times, but didn't execute as well as he could have.

I think it's a pace of the game thing that improves with more exposure.

I'm not sold, but we'll see.

I thought he panicked with the ball under pressure and was not clean enough. He also should have blocked Rainer prior to taking that specky. I know every player makes mistakes.

I just view him as being too vanilla to play half back. Ideally it requires elite pace and long, accurate kicking and he has neither of those traits.

Melksham, Salem and Bowey all confirmed ins while Tomlinson dropped again.

Ins look good on paper, but feel as though Petty's absence upsets our forward structure. Goodwin mentioned post game last week that the forward line was finally starting to get some continuity.

Would prefer to see Howes in for Woey, he's just a better player and gives the team real flexibility down back.

Would love Taj to prove me wrong.

Otherwise, strong line-up, no excuses!

Tomlinson will definitely leave at the end of this year. He constantly gets shafted in our selections.  Clubs wanting a big tall defender (like the Kangas and Tigers) will chase and offer him a contract in my opinion.

you could be right but we wouldn’t have stopped him going when his contract ran out. not sure there would be many takers.

Why is everybody worried about Melksham coming back in, he is not a kid with 1 pre season under his belt, I saw him at the Sponsors function, he looks fitter than ever.

Lever will have to take one of their talls. I personally would have kept Tommo in. I like Lever loose.

Do you think Thommo should be a regular? I think he’s only going to get a game when there’s a matchup for him, and l don’t think the Eagles have one for him.

I’m happy with this team, we don’t need any more kids in the 23 even though Chandler is pretty lucky

I hope Chandler is the Sub, not Kolt.

He’s on the wrong side of 30 and not a regular in the side. I have no qualms if he wants to go and I hope we facilitate a trade.
I rather try and push Tmac to stay on another year.

Kolt can’t bring Chandlers fwd pressure and tackling. Kolt will definitely be sub

Hopefully Chandler can get back into goal kicking form too

I still feel we’re a bit short without another tall up forward.

Who goes out if Petty is fit for next week? Does Melksham become the sub and Kolt goes out? Goodwin said last week he wants all 3 talls playing together to foster some cohesion and connection.

One thing to remember is Melksham came into the side last year when Fritsch went out injured. They only played one game together (Sydney) then Melksham did his ACL. It’ll be interesting to see how we go with two midsize forwards.

Had to double-check and even triple-check I was on Demonland. This is the second time in 24 hours that someone has admitted they’re wrong!!! I’m totes discombobulated, but in a good way.

I have read your famous track reports, so I’m sure you have the better handle on the roles these players are capable.

But Jeffo surely doesn’t ruck well, at AFL level? And Gawn needs a break. If Fullerton is worth a list spot, surely THIS is the moment!

I understand that But JvR has chopped out on occasions

194 cm defenders without pace elite kicking and preparedness to intercept aren’t so popular

if he goes he goes

Dees have a 100% strike rate of mistakenly bringing someone straight back in the senior.

Buck the trend Jake

If anyone can, Jakey can.
Love the intensity he brings to the group.

Fullo needs to grasp the opportunity if he gets it. But if not now, then when?
It’s still only 22+1 players (when will it be 23?)

Any backup for Max must be able to hold down their own place independently and add to the team’s contest.
Can’t just be there to pick and choose when to put it on the line or to look pretty.

I’m struggling to know which shoe goes on which foot

This is why I don’t wear shoes. Whoever invented them has a lot to answer for. Why did they make them so difficult to work out which shoe goes on which foot?

Both play tall at least.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
