Oliver wasn’t ready for the Swans game but….

Rubbish he was better playing than running in the VFL practice game.

He contributed as did many others for 3 quarters but we ran out of petrol tickets. Humidity was over the top and it was no surprise to see most players benefited from the Round Zero game as they performed at a high level vs Dogs.

Max was cooked also by 3/4 time andfrankly outplayed and thought by Brodie.

That won’t happen again and Clarry will be at his top in 2024.

Never flirt with form is as true today as it ever was. Playing an Underdone, statless last week, Petty this week, reeks of just that!

Lots of people expecting an easy win. I say expect the unexpected.

Pumped for game day. Go Dees! Bring it home baby.

You Should get in with your membership, but will be relegated to about level 4, while three quarters of level 1 is empty.  The exclusive nature of watching footy at the MCG via exorbitant pre-booked tickets has become a stain on the game.

Yep. In order to avoid the nosebleeds, you need to get there pretty much when gates open. Otherwise you have to set up your James Webb which will look out over a sea of empty seats on ground level. It’s a joke.

I sense you’re not happy about the selection of Petty. Not sure why I get that impression; maybe it’s because you’ve mentioned it A THOUSAND TIMES.

Hey! Maybe we’ve just found a new nickname for Petts… “Underdone” or perhaps, “Statless” 🙄

I agree with Picket

There is just no need to select him this week Would benefit from a game at VFL and ease him into Adelaide

That’s yours and PF’s opinion and that’s totally fine, coz we’re all entitled to an opinion. I actually agree with you. But it’s the constant repetition that does my head in. Especially on GameDay. Saying the same thing a bazillion times won’t change anything.

Also, I’ve only had one coffee thus far and I’m a little cranky. Apologies 😭

Fritschy won't have 2 poor games in a row. He'll kick 3 or 4.

Petty to find his way into the game and hopefully kick a couple. We need this man fit if we're going to get our hands on the holy grail this year. fingers and toes crossed no lingering problems.

Clarry will get the Maginnis tag by the sounds of it. Interesting to see how he deals with that

Hawks always pose problems and make it difficult but if we're switched on i can't see them beating us.

This game is played at the same family friendly timeslot each season, so my kids have seen us beat the Hawks regularly. It's helping foster a healthy disdain in them for the Hawks. An important life lesson i reckon.

See you all at the G.

A month ago, nobody in the media, and probably few on here, would have thought this a possibility.  What an enormous credit to the young man, and our great Club!

We often find it tough going against the Hawks, but I reckon we will ‘break’ them in the last, and run out winners by 7 goals, with Clarry kicking 2 of them.

I have it on extremely good authority that “Bayles is still hurting” following last week’s performance. Not physically hurting (put down the defibrillator 😁), but he sets himself the highest of standards and is gutted when he doesn’t deliver. Believe me, no one is more disappointed than he is. He’s champing at the bit to get out there and atone for last week. This morning I told my extremely good authority person he’ll kick six, but we’d be happy with four. 😊

DEES BY 23 ❤️💙

I'm not that bothered by Fritta's performance last week.  He kicks 3 or 4 the week before, then Bulldogs put a focus on shutting him down and all our other forwards have a bit more space and get their lick of the ice cream.

Only thing disappointing with Fritta's year so far in general, including practice matches has been his goal kicking accuracy has been way off from his normally elite standards.  No real probs there though, I've got no doubt he'll get his routine right again as the season progresses and he'll kick straight when it really counts.

Won't be going to the game today as it's clashing with attending the Grand Prix with my daughter, who's totally into that.

Flying the flag with my MFC scarf and drinks bag out here at Albert Park all day though.

GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!!

Rushing "name" players back & not rewarding form was part of the reason we failed in 2022.

Goody has a history of doing this.

I thought the plan weeks ago was for Petty to return against the Hawks.

What’s changed? The fact he had  a run last week to dust off some cobwebs.

you leave the afl executive alone! they've got important schmoozing to do!!

it's not an experiment imo

he's in our best team and he'll get up to speed faster in the afl than he will at casey

It worked for Oliver.

I expect them to give us some trouble in the first half. A few turnovers and counter attacks. Until we settle and our more seasoned bodies roll them in the second

I’ve gone to this away Hawks game we seem to have every year for years. I have never not found a seat to the right or left of the cheer squad by just walking in around 30 mins before the bounce.

M32-M35 generally has free seats. I don’t think Hawks fans are filling up the MCG at the moment, so I would be shocked if today is any different.
If not, I’m coming to find you and we can share a seat 😂

Sadly I will be an armchair supporter today.

A major point of interest will be the handling of Petty and BBB.

Unless lubrication ports have been installed in BBB' s knees ( the bees knees) we know he won't get through an entire season.

We all hope Petty is fully recovered , but, we've all seen those type of injuries become recurring problems. And then there is Tmac !

Maybe today will provide some insights into how these three are going to be managed.

Today's result? The Hawks aren't mugs but if we are serious a comfortable 35 point win is on the cards!

I wonder if you can get by the red roosta drive thru?

Have another cup on me

some folks love getting their knickers in a twist over selections.

ben brown does not need to prove form. Fitness is his challenge which is why he will not play every game. He is being managed.

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
