Sure, which former Dees player could we most liken Caleb Windsor to, even though it's early days?

Funny you should ask that. A player immediately came to mind  which I thought I'd note on the pod.

And, on reading your q, another player came to mind.

Looking forward to hearing it Binman

Thought we had the game sewn up at half time and I was very happy with what  I saw up until then. I know the 3 boys on the bench played in the earlier match but I would have liked to have seen more of Verrell, Brown and Tholstrup. What are your thoughts on their limited minutes and did you think we should have rested Max and a few others earlier.

Thought our forward connection was excellent and only let down by set shot kicking for goal. How do you think our key forwards fared? Schache? Roo?

I was beginning to lose faith in Sparrow and I thought he stood up after 1/4 time and had an excellent game kicking 3 goals. We need a big year from him given Gus’ retirement and Clarry’s potential absence.

Interesting Centre Bounce Attendance stats that Andy posted in the Post Game Thread. I was really impressed with Salem's poise and polish in the middle and was pleasantly surprised that he attended the most Centre Bounces for the Dees with 22. Viney 20, Tracc 17, Sparrow 10 and Kozzy 9.

Been very critical of Schache. I thought that was his best competitive performance for the club so far, competed, took his chances rucked ok.

Didn't see Olivers VFL appearance, did he only play in the midfield? What was his rotating position?, if he comes in, what amount of time do you think he would play in the middle if he does against Sydney.

Devastated about the news of Gus' retirement last week. Champion player whose career has been tragically cut short. I hope the club can find a role for him. He will forever be a Premiership Demon.

He simply can't replace his onfield leadership but how do you think we will cover the important role he played?

I believe Billings only played a handful of games for the Saints in the last two seasons due to a combination of injuries and form loss prior to coming over to us.

I know its early days but it appears that he has found a new lease on life. Boy does he have some silky skills. I am very bullish about how good this could turn out for him and us. I hope he plays in the ones against Sydney. No question from me, just a comment.

kozzy isn’t available for our match against the Swans in opening round . how will we cover his loss in the forward line and who takes his place ? I haven’t been overly impressed with any of our small forwards in the 2 praccy matches with the exception of kynan brown but he wasn't given much of a chance to put his hand against the blues .

Travis Johnstone equals a young Caleb Windsor.

I'm guessing that's where you are going. I think a few noticed.

Is Salo in the middle a lock for the season?

Looking forward to the podcasts again.

Based on the Richmond match sim, I thought that Pup Brown might be a good chance.  What does the panel think?

ps.  I was disappointed that he wasn’t given more ground time against Carlton.  Could this be an indication that our Match Committee think he’s not quite ready?

Nup, not TJ.

TJ is an all time fav of mine, and funnily enough would probably suit footy cira 2024 better than when he played with the importance of wingers. And i can see the comparison.

But whilst a smooth mover, Windsor strikes me as less, how should i put this - urgent? (was going to stay stoner like) and perhaps more hard it than TJ. And not as fast as Windsor.

Also, admittedly from a very limited sample size i'm not sure if Windsor is as good a kick as TJ, perhaps with Wattsy, the best kick i have seen at the dees.

Isn’t Windsor faster?

Snap.

Agree, just though the same thing and edited my post accordingly

I’ll enter the quiz and suggest Steven Stretch (but he’s probably before your time).

Strangely enough he reminded me of a former Carlton player.  David Glascott. Who was an absolute gun.

Windsor reminds me of Alan Johnson, the loping stride with a bit of a back hunch.

Very happy with the way we zoned in defence an were able to play tempo footy when needed. It was the mirror image of the way we played the Match Simulation against the Tigers. Playing Devil's Advocate here but were there any concerns that we still gave up their 3 goals apiece to their two key forwards in Curnow and McKay, the latter could have kicked 5 if he knew how to kick. Granted they're both Coleman Medalists and granted our defence shut down any other scoring opportunities and kept them to under 70 points.

Let's not bury the lede here. Is Clarry getting selected to play in the Opening Round match against the Swans? It's time to fully welcome him back into the fold.

Surprised that there hasn't been more hype surrounding the Rematch of the Century in Gawn vs Grundy. Who wins the battle?

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
