Further proof that the AFL protects high profile players and Brownlow hopefuls

If this same action was done by a nobody, say I dunno Hunter, it would result in suspension. And has.

if toby hadn't turned his body, what do you think would have happened?

there would certainly still have been a collision

it might have been worse for boyd

2 players might have been injured

as it was, boyd had minimal hurt, so does this mean toby made the right decision?

this is a very, very difficult one

and finally, was it accidental or careless

you be the judge

I think he can turn his body but he needs to still watch the ball.

Brisbane player last night jumped in the air and collected someone in the head - can't remember who, did anyone see it? Must get a week going by Kozzies suspension.

I’m surprised Hogan only got one week. Hogan and the Carlton doctors don’t have a good relationship.

Yes, and Toby hasn’t been suspended since the Covid era. Challenge!!!

I didn’t think Hogan’s slap was any worse than several others that have got fines or completely let off.

It was retaliation, other player wasn’t hurt and it appeared a reflex action more than a deliberate attack.

1 week for Toby was a gift, potential to injure was high.

I haven't looked closely at the Greene incident, but I disagree with the must 'watch the ball' line.  That was conceived I think to penalise a player lining up another player never having any intention to get the ball, only to clobber the opponent.

But it is possible to initially go for the ball, realise that you won't get there, check where the oppo is and then take some measure to protect yourself and the oppponent.  It's that last bit that need to be focussed on.

I disagree on this one. Hit him in the face off the ball. Has to be a week suspension.

They'll have that hit on L.Neale that got him the face as precedent. The AFL digs themselves holes that they cannot get of.

Make the rules simple. Any punch, jumper push, closed fist, open hand...to any part of the body is automatic 1 week minimum. Then you can have grades that can increase the sentence based on severity and potential to cause injury.

I am more convinced now than ever, that the AFL deliberately leave in these loop holes to allow for wiggle room to let off certain players/clubs. I mean the entire commission and senior leadership at the AFL are freakin lawyers.

I love the detail that the ball actually bounces off Greene's shoulder. He has literally stopped going for the ball out of fear of impact, and then barrelled into the much more vulnerable opponent's head.

He chose to bump instead of contest the ball.

If that isn't a simple one for the MRO then they are in serious trouble.

Neale was hit in the stomach wasn't he? Personally I'm comfortable if any off the ball stuff like what Pendlebury did is given a week. It's just not needed in the game.

The MRO gave it a week, it's now up to the tribunal.

Hope the AFL are happy. They are so hopelessly inconsistent in their rulings that every suspension is getting challenged. why not spin the wheel of mayhem?!

There was another one earlier on in the season. Cannot remember precisely who it was, but a player went to push, made contact with the shoulder/chin of Neale.

I remember because Neale made a meal out of the contact, making sure everybody noticed it.

Excellent idea.  Player spins the wheel to determine his own penalty.

It's a TV ratings bonanza waiting to happen

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
