"Godfrey, in the top three at Melbourne for aerobic fitness alongside Cameron Bruce and Nathan Jones"

the story is actually about godfrey and was posted elsewhere, but im amazed that bruce is in the top 3 at the club. i believe godfrey and jones, but i thought other players up there wouldve been bell, jmac and davey before bruce...

nah davey would rule the anaerobic, but yeah i could see why bruce would be good. he's got the physique for aerobic exercise. to be honest i've never really seen him sprint, even at full pace he doesn't look to be going to quick. so maybe his body isn't very good at anaerobic exercise.

why is that so hard to believe.

It would've been however a shock if Johnstone, Pickett, Yze were on the list.

Cameron Bruce has always been up there - it is something that he prides himself on!!

At least Godders is a contributor and not being carried like Mark Bolton at the Bombers!!

This thread is bizarre

Bruce has always been one of the AFL's fittest players Probably covers more ground than any other Demon

Shame he cant kick

i just wouldnt have put him in our top 3. he never seems to chase hard, and he doesnt seem to have the run all day capacity that godfrey has. im obviously confusing the ability to run all day with the ability to run hard. he probably spends more time on the ground than many of the others...fair call...

with regards to davey, he is definetly anaerobia, ut as we saw last weekend he has the ability to just run around all day...he found himself in the back mid and forward and various times so his aerobic capacity must be pretty good too.

Tell me if I am wrong, I think I remember Bell ran in the G/F sprint not Davey

two years ago for us when Davey was fit ;)

you cant fault bruce on his application, his work ethic, his willingness to do the team things (i.e. negative roles), or his commitment (just because he isn't brock mclean doesn't mean he doesn't get his own ball, and go when he needs to). unforetunately for cam his kicking in recent times is one thing you can criticise.

he will finish his career having at least been AA once and probably a B&F

Bruce when 100% is VERY athletic and could out do many players.

godders does not suprise me, he is a solid run with player.

Why is it hard to believe he is top 3 fittest at the club? I'd say he was THE fittest, and top 3 in the LEAGUE if not injured. The guy was a cross country runner, and one of his main strengths as that he can run all day. He doesn't have the best pace, but he covers more ground on our team than anyone except maybe Junior I'd have thought.

Bruce kept up with Griffin, who's greased lightning. That said, Griffen did have possession, and Cam was at his absolute limit for pace.

Yeah, it's believable. Most aerobic never means fastest. I was always one of the slowest at my footy club, but one of the fitest.

easily believe it

I'm with Rogue, who seems to be with condemned.....

It really isn't that hard to believe.

It's hard to believe you find it hard to believe.

it is not only easy to believe, it is easy to see it on the park every week.

considering bruce is not a quick player, how do u explain him consistently getting 25 possies a game. he runs his arse off all day, that's how he attracts the ball

Give it a rest, he is now one of our top players and we have just found out one of the fittest but he cant kick. I would hate to be grasping at straws

Not chase hard?? Did you watch the Dogs game? He chased Griffin from half back to half forward, and while he couldn't match him for pace, it was a gut-busting effort. The constant Bruce-bashing amazes me.

Its amazing because it is a load of nonsense, I just dont understand how supporters can bash their own players. As much as I hate Collingwood they are at least passionate and u would rarely catch them bagging their own players

hey guys im sorry this thread went this way. it wasnt a bruce bashing thread - i love the guy, just wish his kicking was a little better. i can be an yze basher at times, but certainly no bruce basher.

obviously my mistake regarding bruces aerobic capacity, isuppose its just not really something ive ever really noticed before. i'll look closer before i post next time ey :P

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
