I make it that we have 33 on the list now - with Tomlinson and Joel Smith (who everyone seems to have forgotten about) probably going...so could leave 31-32.

So with only 2 picks, seems we would upgrade two of our rookies (McVee and AMW?) as minimum on senior list is 36.

Unless we are doing some more deals today to get in more picks...

Update for Sharp.

Again unsure at this stage of the contract lengths for Campbell and Sharp to some guesswork being employed

footywire has Campbell until 2025

Looks like we will be one short on the senior list, max 36, currently 33 with only pick 5 & 9.

I believe we can use Pick 83 (round 5 pick) if required

Great trade period watching other clubs secure ready made talent ! Park pic 9 aside not sure Sharp & Campbell re having huge impacts! Zero fwds  unbelievable!

You've made the point in the Trade thread, D. Misplaced/unnecessary to make it again here in this appreciated 'thread of record'.

Fair point just frustrated why our club appears to be irrelevant

I'd guess Sharp would have a minimum of two years given his age.

We have the following jumper vacancies: 10, 12, 19, 20?, 27?, 29, 30, 34, 43

Could you start a 2025 Jumper Numbers thread, like last year, with these, please, @Demonland?

I count 5 A Rookies, with Hore unsigned.

20 would fit nicely on my back, pretty happy in the 42 tho, havent moved in the last 3 years so not particularly excited to move now.

List is locked in 36 snr players 32 plus mcvee and amw picks 5&9 and 6 rookies (1 to fill) and 0 catb's (2 to fill)

I don’t think the AFL media thinks we are irrelevant.

32 on Senior List (people forgettng Joel Smith has not been delisted (yet)).

So you'd think:

- 2 spots for pick 5 and 9
- 2 spots for McVee and AMW (Rookie upgrade)

If Smith gets delisted, then either a pick at PSD or another rookie upgrade (Kynan Brown)?

I checked the latest list after Tomlinson went, and it is 32, and Joel Smith's name is not on the list. So, 32 seniors, six rookies & 1 Cat B rookie. On the latest list Mcvee is already upgraded. The 6 rookies are Melk, Sestan, Kentfield, Brown, Hore & Verrell.

Is this on website? Where are you looking? As Smith has definitely not been delisted given the pending investigation/final list lodgment is not until mid novemeber.

No, this is a few pages back where one of our posters keeps a list of the contracts, their length, etc. It is the most up-to-date synopsis of the club. Lucifer's hero used to manage it, but she handed it over to Red and Blue forever.

Thanks red and blue forever it is getting a bit tricky with Smith in Never Land and Marty Hore in Limbo.

Apologies, I was under the mistaken impression that Smith had already been delisted.

Fixed now.

In the absence of a contract, come 31 October (I think?) what is a player's status, then?

The interesting thing is, could Smith be the tall forward option we are looking for. Has he been suspended, how long is his suspension.  Maybe he is rookied, for 12 months and comes back after that.

How long do you need to be out of the AFL to come back as a Cat B rookie?

Perhaps because smith does not have a contract his name should be in red same as Hore.

assuming Smith is gone (formality) and McVee is promoted, situation as I see it is a maximum of 8 spots available:

- Senior List (current 32) - 4 to 6 additional spots available

- Rookie List (6) - 0 to 2 additional spots available (1 to 3 if Hore Delisted)

- Rookie B (1) - 1 spot available

a few choices between 2 draft picks, DFA options and SPP's

Still limited to max 44 players

Last year 36 senor 6 rookie A 2 rookie B

Now at 33 S 6A and 1B  (assumes McVee has already been upgraded)

If Smith and Hore go will be 32S 5A and 1B

If AMW  gets upgraded to senior list will be 33S 5A and 0B

This leaves following spots 3 senior 1 rookie A 2 Rookie B

There could be other combinations but I don't know the rule limiting the number of each category.  I know some clubs leave a space for mid season draft in the past, but don't know if that has changed.

Maybe they go 35, 8 and 1 if legal.

Maybe they traded those picks in the 60's because there was better value of 20 -22 year old players from other comps to be picked as rookies.

Hi red and blue forever, the club has just announced that Marty Hore has been re- signed for 2025 CatA rookie and Jake Melksham has been upgraded to the senior list. 😁😁

I imagine that means we will be taking 3 picks at the draft, with McVee also upgraded and Smith delisted?

AMW then will be moved to the Cat A rookie list and then I’m guessing Mentha and maybe an Irish player on the Cat B list

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
