OK. Bright side. And I know it's not blindingly bright but Carlton supporters will be seriously snaky about the Pies joining them on 16 flags. (I knew I'd find some schadenfreud somewhere.)

I posted at halftime that the game would likely be decided by umpiring. And so it came to pass. The state of AFL umpiring is killing the game. For all the brilliant play, and players, all the work, dedication and teamwork, umpiring is simply making the game unwatchable. Congrats to Collingwood, but we’ll forever know there’s a huge, ugly umpiring asterisk hanging over this flag.

I get they make mistakes but that was a howler.

They need to be suspended and maybe they'll stop.

But the also all good with these things so enough said.

Pies recruited Hill who stars & we get Schache who played 2 games & was ahead of Grundy … go figure

The advantage was a shocker but also bad were the penalties for high tackles awarded to N Daicos who dropped his knees every bloody time. He should be called on it.

Richo was right, the players didn't even know there was a free kick, the ball had moved forward 10 metres before whistle blown and umpires assumed advantage was taken. That and all the N Daicos ducking frees and non-call on Maynard's decapitating tackle just defined too many pivotal moments, I feel sorry for Fages, Lions and their supporters, I'm ropeable and it's not even my team.

I'm not even watching this presentation. Cannot stomach it. Makes me ill the thought of Maynard, cox and Howe getting there medals.

Jarrod berry you are an [censored].

That's makes it even worse. Collingwood, Essendon & Carlton now lead the way. The 3 most hated clubs

Oh the premierships’ been paid for by the good old AFL

Hooe Kozzie Pickett was watching Bobby Hill today.

Unbelievable performance.

"Kozzie, it's not hard. Find space, get front and square"

Well the only bit of that game I saw was a replay of some pie getting a shoulder to the head. It’s not much, but I’ll take it, as my only memory of the end to a very depressing September.

I will now use my remaining mental strength trying not to imagine the two worst offenders receiving their medals. Damn, I just imagined it. Out! Out damn Cox!

Go Dees.

If we had a decent coach we win this years flag.

Maynard winning a flag is a disgrace.

That does not cover it.

And then we sign up the pea heart for another year!

one of the very few players I’ve ever seen that looks dead set terrified on the field.

It WOULD have been us if we had any sort of luck with injuries.

I'm outside but can hear Jeremy Howe's name called out.

Jeremy Howe, congratulations but you can surf a piece of plywood up my [censored].

two 50’s for no reason

Berry, one of the dumbest footballers going around and extremely overrated.

Wait till next year when someone jumps in the air and "spoils" and gets four weeks ;)

And so ends the weakest AFL season in my living memory. The umpiring this season wrongly and unjustly determined the outcomes of multiple games. I’ve never been more disappointed in our game and after nearly 40 years attending matches weekly I’m basically done.

I pray we can reload and contend again next year or my love of the sport might have died today. What a sad day it is in this country where we see a pack of sexual predators and thugs celebrated.

I really hope the story of that game is the advantage interpretation.

There’s absolutely no justification for how that was to the Lions advantage. That was a pure, out and out, mistake by the umpire.

But who’s gonna talk about the botched advantage call??!! It’s gonna be forgotten about, probs already is. Take the Maynard/Gussy so-called footy act. The only person I heard on TV openly stating that Maynard got off because “the AFL want Collingwood in the Grand Final” was Gussy’s brother Hamish. Everyone else is either in agreement with the AFL or too [censored] gutless to come out and say it.

I really dont like the afl at all. I love the mfc but I have no interest in anything outside of it. It’s a corrupt backwater league. No integrity, corporatised to within an inch of its life. Unaccountable executives have meant I haven’t enjoyed watching it in years.

Or we could kick straight.

Umpires were genuinely atrocious today. That advantage call late in the 4th was a defining moment. I’d be punching walls if I was a Brisbane supporter.

Strange how these 'umpire advantages' take place in the Filth's last quarter, so often.

So there's another concussion for Nathan Murphy.

I assume all the Collingwood [censored] that were calling on Gus to be banned due to multiple concussions are happy to ban 'Glass Jaw' Murphy?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
