Photo of 1964 Premiership players on Brian Dixon's piece on Ron Barassi

Featured Replies

On the Melbourne Football Club site above Dixon's piece about Barassi, there's a photo of most of the 1964 Premiership players, all of them now old men. I can only recognize Barassi, Hassa mann, Dixon, Lord, Townsend and Barry Bourke. I'd love to be able to place the others. Can anybody help?

The score: Melbourne 8.16.64 defeated Collingwood 8.12.60

The 20 players:

B Neil Crompton Bob “Tassie” Johnson Bernie Massey
HB Tony Anderson Brian Roet Frank Davis
C Brian Dixon Don Williams Frank Adams
HF Bryan Kenneally Graeme Jacobs Barrie Vagg
F John Lord Barry Bourke John Townsend
FOLL Graham Wise Ron Barassi Hassa Mann
19/20 Peter McLean Ken Emselle

Len Mann far right at the back

Which one is Towna?

Just a guess but 6th from the right? Johnny Townsend is 80 now.  Ken Emselle is 79 ... in the back with the dark hair?

Hassa Mann on left next to Barassi.

Who is that in the dark glasses?
Is my hero, Donny Williams there?
Come on WJ…….you knew most of these guys!

Don Williams died in 1995. My grandson's other defacto grandfather ran a business with him.

Kenny to Towna’s right, between Dicko and Bluey I’d say.

This is probably the appropriate thread to post this image of the Portland Football Club team in 1949.

Top left is the one and only Stuart Spencer, who won both his club and the League Best & Fairest that year as a 17 year old.   In 1950 he was playing for the Melbourne Football Club.

Great photo, however l’m surprised the club didn’t make the effort to provide all of the names with the article.
