Shelley Heath was so important, and did a LOT of hard work, especially considering how tiny she is. All while kicking a quiet 2 goals and keeping Davey ineffectual.

She gets some big roles against girls twice her size and does the job time and again.

Paxy is officially Paxy Paxman. They changed their name during the off-season.

This may sound rude but Paxy is way better than Karen…

How good were they tonight? That second half was dominant. The midfield is a well oiled machine already. Eliza M is quickly back to being important but her kicking into the forward line is pitch perfect. Just love her game. Kate Hore doesn’t get enough love as one of the best 10 players in the comp and Hanks and Harris are just doing what they always have done.

Campbell showing signs too. Just love this team.

Collingwood doing well to be second given that percentage…

Oh gees. That short doco they played after tonight’s game about last years premiership. What a tear jerker. It was so good.

And Heath! Shelley Heath is the reincarnation of Nathan Brown; dogged and takes on any assignment and backs herself to win the footy.

I was wondering how much footy she has left in her.

On tonights game, obviously quite a bit more.

Agree with that. some of our play from the middle into the forwaed 50 was amazing. Hore was captain fantastic in the 2nd half. I thaught our defence started to get things together but Gay and Birch look like they are still on holidays. Shelley Heath is probably my favorite player. She went from being a half back flanker to midfield tagger and dangerous forward. Eliza McNamaras 2nd half was excellent. Good to see her get some clear rouches and great ball movement.

Lets hope the blokes can do to the filth what the girls have done. My beer is tasting fine.

💪

23 scoring shots.

In not much more than an hour of footy.

Just sayin'

Very positively.

That was an awesome game . Listened to Libby birch before the game  she said (paraphrasing) that it would be close but we’d run over them in the last qrt. (Sound familiar) However she didn’t predict the overwhelming effort in the second half. Great enjoyable footy to watch !!

Especially since the name Karen has been hijacked courtesy of Karen from Brighton. I have two friends named Karen who curse that woman. 😁

A shame they didn’t consider the name ‘Premiership Paxman’ 😝.

But in all seriousness, I’m just grateful they play for the Dees.

Still a few games and rounds to go, but it’s hard to see the ladder changing from here.

I’m not mathematician but I dare say the Pies will drop a few spots 🤣🤣

Far out that was a shaky start. But this isn't a team that's fazed by a bunch of behinds on the scoreboard (it's a familiar enough scenario heh). A few of ours will be better for the run, to put it politely. Haven't seen us turn the ball over so badly in ages, especially in the back line. Once the engine room clicked into gear though, we were unstoppable. The opposition can't find forward line space if we just never let it down there, I guess.

Highlights:

- #1 has to be the return of McNamara. Wore a big tackle early in the game - the mental strength is admirable. Had a solid game too and love her and B.Mackin as a dynamic wing duo. The latter was everywhere. 396 metres gained, the second on the ground. In her second season of footy...ever.

- Heath, talk about scoreboard reward for effort. Davey is a tough customer and you might look at Heath standing next to her and wonder, but Dees fans know Shelley's tenacity personified.

- Bannan is such a rollercoaster of a player. Looks completely out of it at times then just lights it up.

- Campbell was as I'd hoped and her role was welcome because L.Pearce is going to need increasing help I think.

- Calling it now, Paxy will play til 40, one of few who held the standard for a full four quarters. They've still got it!

Lowlight:

- Didn't manage to hear the "We are the girls from Casey Fields chant" all night - must have been in some kind of sound vortex cause I don't doubt the Demon Army were loud and proud as usual.

Apologies if it’s already been mentioned, but does anyone know what the attendance was?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned here already but saw a post on Reddit that said 8,412 - more than double any other ALFW season opener

Brilliant! And deserved. Am I right in thinking Georgie Campbell is ex-Dee Tony Campbell’s daughter?

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned but loved the gold (premiership) AFLW logo on our jumper. Gold for the next few years please.

We were definitely as loud and proud as usual. Not as many of us there, but those who were made a helluva lot of noise. We did “We are the girls from Casey Fields” a couple of times. Bummer you couldn’t hear us coz we were good. 😁

Yes. Our first father/daughter. I was told he only played one game for the Dees, clearly one’s enough to qualify.

Many more than one if it's my flared-briefly 1987 finals poster boy.

Played a few more at Doggies?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
