I mentioned this once before: the guy who was BOG for Norwood Redlegs in 2022 GF. Shepp boy?

The question no one from the media who have been critisicising us for picking up Grundy have tried to answer is who would have rucked for us when Gawn was injured earleir this season?  If Grundy leaves, the club will need to answer that question.  Will Verrell or Farris-White be able to fill in at AFL for a short period (or longer) if Gawn is injured again next year?  It doesnt look like it to me, so I think we need another experineced ruckman on the list next season.

As unpopular he is around here, in hindsight, perhaps we should have chased Rory Lobb instead of Grundy.

Will be a repeat of the Grundy situation. Been there done that. We have to draft from the crop of new up and coming ruck potentials and also pick up a seasoned second stringer fro other AFL clubs or competitions.

Quite the evocative thread-title.

Could've been worse, such as using "get" instead of "go".

Yes what is wrong with big bad boyd

Sam Hayes from Port and Tom Fullarton from Brissy are two young rucks I would be interested in picking up. Haven't seen much of them but they fit the profile we are looking for.

No.

I'd go a cheaper alternative and look at Nick Bryan from Essendon.

I like the look of Fullarton. He's very raw but could continue to develop as a forward ruck until Max retires.

A big no to Hayes. He could have all the talent in the world but he hasn't developed a tank (STILL) in the 6 odd years he's been in the system. If he did, he'd be the natural successor to Lycett. The fact that they chased Grundy last year and are doing so now says it all.

I like the look of Nick Bryan too. He's mobile, has decent skills. While I haven't seen a huge amount of his ruck work, he appears super athletic for a 203cm player. Is he out of contract?

That's the guy!

And the 'BBB' will be vacant?

(p.s. I hope BBB1 does keep up / increase his WDees involvement)

I've mentioned Goldstein before. He won't come cheap but for say $400k you get a good ruck that can give Gawn six odd games off over the season and act as a backup.

Give him an assistant coaching role at VFL/AFL level to sweeten the deal.

One year only and then recruit for best available as potential number 1 ruck going forward

He's 35 - no from me

Geelong might be keen

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
