Sorry if this has been reported earlier.

Watching ABC news at 7:30 on Friday night.

Travis Johnstone has been fined for talking badly to the umpires after the port adeilade match.

Good on ya, TJ. I find it comforting to know that the guys who are out there representing the Club we love are feeling the pain as acutely as we supporters do. Some people accuse TJ of not trying, but they obviously don't know he's yapping more than any other Demon, and despite his casual appearance, he's giving his guts for the club.

obviously the typical description of laconic didnt apply to TJ this time. using it would definitely be a malapropism ;) who says i don't learn stuff on demonland lol

The rotten bastard deserved a spray! The MFC club should be fining the ump!

Exactly i agree with you, he was giving him a spray because he cost us the game

Isnt that what we would do if we were playing and the umpire gave us that crap decision

Daniher has been fined also which is ludicrous given the umpires have admitted they got it wrong.

Thanks for letting us know and here's a fine for pointing us in the right direction. We'll talk to the rules committee and see what they can come up with.

Its the AFL's money anyway but surely reason should prevail at some point?

Surely?

AFL is dead.

Does anyone know if the other coaches who received the "please explain" letters (Roos, Eade and Sheedy from memory) got themselves fined as well?

If so that is quite a bit of moula the commandant and his lieutenant have collected because of the umpires in receent weeks.

So say all four coaches copped the same $2500 Daniher did, plus Johnstone's $2500 (according for Fox Sports), as well as Kane Johnson's (Richmond) $5000 or so fine from last week for having the audacity for trying to talk to them, and then you add Sam Mitchell's (Hawthorn) $3500'ish fine for maybe or maybe not making accidental contact (he may have tripped over no-one seems to sure) with one on the weekend.

The AFL in actuality is doing the quality of umpiring and the umpires themselves absolutely no favours whatsoever by wrapping them up so tight against the elements. Honest criticism, not abuse, should be able to make them better, but apparently that has now been completely outlawed.

everyone was fined (suspended). and AD said 'it doesnt matter if it is justified or not we are unashamably protecting umpires. we can't recruit them so we need to look after them at every level of the game.' or words to that effect.

Thanks deanox :) !!!

Employ umpires full-time and make them fully professional. Problem solved.

The fact that the AFL is a multi-million dollar industry, and yet it won't hire its umpires full-time, is symptomatic of the way this corporation is run.

i completely agree jaded. its a bit of a joke isnt it. i think that the full afl squad should be full time, and there should be a full time vfl development squad who get to act as reserve umpires etc occassionally in the afl. what do vfl umps get paid now? would it be that hard to invest 50 grand for 10 umps each in a full time development squad. maybe from a financial point of view it doesnt make sense for the afl because it is money they dont make money from...

In fact they'd probably get less in fines for players and coaches ragging on the umps :P

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
