They did beat us there in finals last year tho 😒

They don’t cope well with pace on the ball on a big ground

unfortunately when we played them in finals we weren’t able to take advantage of this susceptibility because we were carrying too many players with knocks and knacks

If the Daicos bros have what I just had, I legit feel sorry for them.

I have never felt so unwell.

Woke up with white tonsils, sore throat, headache, running nose... slept almost 20 straight hours. Zero energy. Couldn't eat. Lasted 2-3 days. Then suddenly better.

Can't see them getting up for Monday if they're still sick today. What's goint around Melbourne atm is brutal.

Apparently the flu season this year is absolutely brutal.
A few people I know had it and said it was worse than Covid, which sounds horrible as I was incredibly sick with Covid (even after 3 shots!).

I am shocked if all footballers aren’t getting the flu shot to be honest. Surely it’s mandatory for athletes playing a winter sport in Melbourne.

My 4 year old grandson was hospitalised with the flu last week, consequently his mum said she has never felt so sick with it, and is still coughing etc a week later. Doubt the players will the flu will play.

Monday’s banner is gonna look SPECTACULAR!

We do loves us anything giant… the bigger the better!

GIANT BEANIE!!! 🥳

Also, our giants heads will all be wearing Big Freeze beanies masterfully constructed by (among others) @DeelightfulPlay who came to banner making and slotted in perfectly. 💖

Oh and we got to eat these…

They look incredible and it seemed a shame to wreck them by eating them. It was hard but we eventually managed to push through the pain and they practically disappeared into thin air.

PS some eejit ate four of them, pinged off the walls for an hour and now feels sick. Pffft some people!

Thanks for welcoming a shy interstate traveller to the great fun of banner and beanie making, WCW!

The pies will win comfortably and the reason is simple:

We still haven’t developed a corridor game and we simply won’t be able to score enough without one.

Meanwhile the Pies will get to 80 points no matter how good we are defensively because they’re a constant attacking threat. They consistently open the corridor which creates space and wrecks defensive structures.

Salem played his best game since the grand final, Rivers is trying to do the right things and McVee is showing promise but there’s still not enough bounce at half back. If Gus goes back to replace Bowey that isn’t helped either.

Langdon creates overlap run in his own way but it takes a lot to go right to goal from Eddie overlaps against elite defences. Our forwards haven’t timed their leads to his kicks at all this year.

Hunter plays slow and gets the ball almost exclusively in the Wayne Harmes zone millimetres from the boundary and doesn’t have the confidence or penetration to kick the ball back to the corridor. I’d play him on the right wing so he is forced to roll corridor side but that will probably mess with his defensive and outlet positioning.

We don’t have a CHF to do what Geelong do to Collingwood which is hit up Jeremy Cameron often at the point of the centre square. It was nice to see Fritsch up the ground in the second half v Carlton rather than always attempting to break Josh Jenkins’ record for out the back goals but at best he’s Kmart Jezza and undersized at centre half forward.

We won’t be able to use Petracca as a de facto CHF without Oliver or braving significant midfield minutes to small forwards. And none of Chandler, Spargo, ANB or Pickett have shown the ability to rack up big touches through half forward - which isn’t their fault, they’d have to be super human to win a stack of ball from long down the line footy.

Hopefully we put up a great effort and who knows, maybe we get lucky, but there’s a clear gap in the capabilities of the sides and pretending we can flick a switch to form and tactics from 2021 isn’t reasonable.

Their style of play is not a perfect science and they are prone to turning the ball over themselves. Less experienced defensive units often panic under the pressure of relentless entries. With such fast ball movement created on the back of turnovers sometimes there’s not set play. I think we can hold our own defensively against them, just hope we don’t get bogged down in our own transition and our accuracy returns to what it was in the opening rounds.

They have plenty of wins - if i was their coaching group I wouldn’t risk it take the  loss and move on.

You don’t think Brisbane is worried about their record at the MCG, given you gotta win there to win a flag?

edit: I just listened to Fagan talk about this in the post match conference. He seemed to laugh it off but ultimately said he doesn’t know if it’s an issue or not.

On Monday morning at Fed Square it’s…

image.gif.5e6117bf3663c3ec7a3de47321803353.gif

COME AND GRAB A SNAG IN BREAD!

(Bottled water and cans of soft drink available)

From 9:30-ish

100% of the proceeds will go to FightMND.

Thanks to Coles donating the entire supply of sausages, onions, bread, drinks and condiments the Demon Army only have to provide the BBQs, utensils and manpower, ie, no outlay for us. Therefore there’ll be a very healthy donation going to FightMND.

There will be entertainment all morning, including Neale and Bec up on the stage.

At 12:30 we start the walk to the ‘G. This year we’ll have a marching band drummer accompanied by a trumpeter! 🥳

Please come and support the cause that means so much to Neale. ❤️💙

Only so far as it might get into players head.

A ground is a ground. There's all sorts of anomalous statistical quirks in footy.

If it was a priority for them to win that game because they thought they needed to win games at the g, they would have won it.

They were paddling in that last quarter, which is why the hawks attacked with run all game.

Incomparable to their running power they have shown most of the season, including their first half blitz of us in round two.

It didn't look like a target match for them.

They are no different to us - it's all about September.

Half our team was injured and yet we still led at half time and they only just got over the top of us.

Their game doesn't stand up in big games, because it relies on 1v1s that are a lot rarer in big finals.

Their midfield hasa record of going missing too.

They bat deeper this year, but Indont consider them a great threat.

Port in Adelaide, maybe, but other than that, it's Collingwood, us and the dark horse is Adelaide.

Maybe you’re right, but I think they will aim to finish top 2, to get the home ground advantage. So losing this game doesn’t help them at all. They’d hate to finish third or fourth and travel in week one. Especially if they end up against the Pies at the G.

Are you implying we lack refinement? Coz we actually do, which is why it’s so much fun. But should the need ever arise for a sleazy old curmudgeon at banner making, you’ll be the first to know.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
