Pick in the 30s is fair for Harmes. 38 would work. He’s 28 and has played over 150 games. He struggled this year due to personal reasons which saw him away from the club and football for a period of time. He’s not some no name who can’t play. He’d be in nearly every clubs best 22. I’d rather keep him as depth as he wouldn’t be on a big contract now, but if he wants to leave then pick 38 is fine.

I think it will be more likely pick 46.

Maybe it’s a F2nd, if they need 38 this year.

Can't be a F2nd because the Dogs already traded their F1st to GC. They can trade their F4th due to revised AFL rules.

I think it needs to be a pick this year. They're in a tight spot for picks to cover Croft and make trades.

I wonder if they are trading anyone out?

No not needed we will only have one or 2 draft picks then. Tomlinson and Schache as required players baffles me. Doesn't give us much to play with.

McAdam for Jordon's pick and Fullerton for Harmes pick. Rookie Melksham. That leaves with Grundy's pick, pick 13, 26, 34 which we can package for pick for pick 10. In the draft we have picks 5 and 10 and K.Brown as a late pick and we'll have 1 rookie pick.

We lose,

:Hibbard, Grundy, Harmes, JJ, Dunstan and Smith.

We absolutely need to bring in some AFL standard players.  We Currently have 6 spots to Fill.

With Fullarton and McAdam coming in it's 4 Spots.  If we top up from the draft too much we won't have any depth which we are seriously lacking in our midfield atm.

We really need a solid midfield cover of this standard.

True, but personally I like the blooding of kids like McVee, Woewodin, JvR, etc. Add Howes to that next year.

It’s only 3 senior spots and 1 rookie that’s gonna be taken by draft picks absolute no to McLean we don’t need a solid Casey midfield our draft picks can cover that along with Howes, Laurie and Woewodin

You blood the for sure, but if they aren't at the level for midfield at AFL level then they aren't ready.

You need that cover just in case, we have had it with JJ, Harmes and Dunstan.  Big Hole with them gone

Yup, so we are hoping that Laurie and Woewodin are going to become a lot better.  And Hoping that draft picks can walk into the best midfield in the comp at 18.

It doesn't have to be McLean, but I think we need a player of that standard to cover the loss of JJ, Harmes and Dunstan.  It's a big hole, I don't care if they never play am AFL game for the dees.   Just the coverage that you can rely on.

Dunstan didn’t play a game. Harmes was woeful while JJ struggled. I don't think it's a big hole at all.

Maybe a hole at Casey.

Yes but there was no one else that can play the midfielder role.  So we don't replace them and we are going even further down in the talent pool.

I have high hopes for Laurie and Howes but they aren't at that level yet

Thats my whole point, we aren't looking at someone to come into the AFL side

Yes four of these played a decent amount of top up games this year

JJ 18, Grundy 17 , Hibbo 12, Harmes 9

Assume club looking at Laurie , Woey jnr, Howes as players to fulfill the depth positions held by Dunstan, Harmes and JJ.

I hope they do, but based on this year we can't rely on them.  Think we need a proven AFL standard midfielder as back up.  Not a star, not a B22 player, someone that is good enough at AFL level if called up

I was irked and began looking back over premiership teams which had topped up from the draft just prior.

A couple of obvious winners were Cyril Rioli and Joel Selwood.

Then I realised; Jackson, Rivers, Pickett + Bowey.

Except for out tragically wounded forward line we aren't too bad for depth and I'd suggest any mature top-4 team which had a pick roughly every eight selections up to pick forty (5, 13, 26, 34, 40) would be and should be laughing.

I don't think there's ever been a top-4 side with a draft hand that strong.

Not too often top 4 sides select more than 3-4 players in the draft either.

Think we are going hard for pick 10 too, which will soak up a couple of those picks

Wonder what happened to Harmes?

He used to be best 22...

He got figured out. Didn’t add any strings to his bow. Honest trier but not much more.

If McKay is worth pick 3, Harmes is worth pick 4 🙄😂

Maybe look at a train on player over the summer (such as Xavier O’Neill from WCE) and they would be the “injury replacement” for Melksham, who’s likely to be out until at least round 20-21 next year.

If Harmes can find a suitor, we can probably expect 4, plus a 0 .

Hopefully he can be offered a reasonable contract by another club and have a good rest of AFL career.

Should've sent Tomlinson to North for pick 2 when we had the chance 😆

Still need the list spot though.

Id say McAdam is the coverage for Melk.

Train on players are no good, they aren't good enough to be on lists, and if you can't make West Coast's list as a 23yo then I'd pass on that.

Have a look at the other top 4 next in midfielders.

Brisbane - Lyons, Matheson

Coll - Lipinski, Knoble

Port - Narkle, Boak

These guys aren't Best 22 players but if needed are up to the standard to fill the rotation.  Port are in a simmilar position to us and need more depth with Boak almost done and possibly Duursma out the door.

Do we have any long term injuries atm? If we do then we could look at one of those SSP positions.

Edited by Travy14

Doesn’t Melksham qualify as a long term injury?  I think a train on player and SSP pickup might be the mature midfielder backup you’re referring to. Also Markov wasn’t good enough at Suns and now is a premiership player.  Sometimes the environment change can be the thing that makes a youngster.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
