But how could they make that big of error unless something was bought to their attention after it was too late.

    Yes, Academic Incest. Life is not a pendulum: it's a matter of consciousness and using your the senses and intuition and experience to help you navigate though life.     But on this precedent you don’t need to actually injure the player. The act itself, if it doesn’t show a duty of care, is sufficient to be reported.

    I don't think it will be every time, but I think it gives the AFL the opportunity to pick and choose when they want to enforce this.

    Yea that's why I said "injure." I responded to someone that explained the "injury" part well IMO

    Well it's not actually in the rules, so precedent or not, any player could be rubbed out at any time, for anything
