GAMEDAY: Rd 05 vs Essendon

Featured Replies

Everyone complaining about Kayo. Pay a bit extra a month for Foxtel. Better value and a better overall football experience.

Anyway, Essendon got 4 goals either directly from free kicks or from free kicks up the ground. Most probably there but debateable given they weren't called both ways.

They are targeting our backline because of no Lever, pretty obvious.

Their strings of possesion were very concerning. Especially given they aren't a very fast team.

Draper tearing us up is giving me an aneurysm. If Stringer gets involved next, I'll vomit.

We have a few worries but are only a only eight points down. The resting ruckman for Essendon is causing problems isolating Tomlinson.

When van Roo rucks we're getting thrashed in the middle.

Petty's form and now injury is a big concern.

TMac looks off.

McVee probably needs to use the first option.

Brayshaw doing very well.

Clarry only two possessions at quarter time. Unprecedented!

When your ruckman has more possessions than your best mids they’re a problem!

Essendon played out of their skin, hopefully we grind them down and run away with it in the second half.

We look lazy and entitled at times.

They are getting a lot of momentum from free kicks (most of them are deserved but hard to maintain that over 4 quarters)

Our stars and match winners need to lift.

Good news is that they can’t play much better and we have much we can improve on. Not losing to those cheats in Adelaide.

Exactly, they can't keep scoring from centre clearance surely

Spargo, trac, Chandler & bowey  need to get into the game

Bowey is not impacting games that much this year.

Shocking choice there Chandler.

Great grab and goal Melks!

Nicely done Jakey boy!

Say what you want he's definitely good for a big play.

It’s a lot more money. Money we can’t afford. I can barley justify $30 for Kayo.

Melksham kicking a bag against the Bombers would make a win that bit more special.

Him and Trac need to really lift. Not good enough.

Wasn't sure about Melksham but boy was I wrong.

I had Kayo for a month and then got rid of it. Pathetic service

Oliver having a mare. What is happening?

Petty stinking it up too. Not good enough.

Grundy not on the line, he really runs his own race

Setterfield did a number on him at Carlton last year too I think.

Can't rely on the back 6 today, need to win the midfield battle

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
