…still.

Don't get me wrong. I hate Geelong, but we spanked them in a PF. That's much worse than 186.

I went with a Fitzroy-supporting mate.  He was driving.  We had to stay until the end.

Round 23 and PF in 2021 cleansed me.

I don't think I ever enjoyed a game of football from start to finish like I did that PF.

Don't get me wrong, the Grand Final was on a different level, but of course like every other Melbourne supporter there were moments of apprehension and worry. Not the prelim.

It was pure bliss.

What a night that prelim was. Pain free and stressless, like a calm body of water. Everything zen.

In the past we have performed poorly in games like this. The other team has nothing to lose and we have often coasted.

I would like to see a ruthlessness that becomes the norm for us.

Spot on jnr, we never seem to be ruthless in any games. I predict a 6 goal win.

We played pretty ordinary footy at Waverley. Of course the Fitzroy game was the worst. The most annoying thing about Waverley was the fact they used White Crow tomato sauce to put on your pies.

... I thought we lost by 186 to Geelong?

Either 187 or 188, I would love someone else to have the largest losing margin record - couldn't think of a better team than the Eagles.

I could think of a couple of others but they will do for now...

Think it will be a standard 8 or 9 goal win. In soccer vernacular West Coast will park the proverbial bus and throw numbers back. 100 point + wins are more difficult with the way football is played these days.

Worst toilets were Moorabbin.

Me too. He was one ankle injury away from winning a flag.
Now he plays for West Coast.

Agreed, although how good was that come from behind round 23 win to clinch top spot? Hawkins hands on his head like wtf just happened. 🤣 Golden.

Still love the commentary “Max pulls out the driver, sets sails for home”

Exactly what I was thinking about earlier mate! I'm not sure I love the mixed metaphor, but everything else about the delivery, the moment and Max's reaction is brilliant.

Spoken like a true educator Adam! Hope fatherhood is going well for you mate

I actually think Adam Simpson is not a bad bloke, WCE supporters not so much, don't agree that we are not ruthless, there have been a couple of games in the last two years we have put the foot down, different to pre 2021 era. I just don't see anyway we cannot win this handsomely, with a system that should be good for 25 goals.

Sadly I felt this way before the Brisbane game...

I remember listening to a game on the radio when we lost to WCE by 100 points, maybe around 2013-15, and we were so bad that I almost wanted them to lose by 100 for some weird, sick reason! God we were in the absolute depths back then. I’d love to win by 100 for some belated revenge.

Talk about a sliding door of doom..

Sounds like they're missing a few which will make life hard for them! i must admit i am never 100% confident going to Perth to play a perth team but this is probably going to be one of the weakest Eagles 22's that they've had on the park in a long time.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
