Good shout.

We’ve played at MCG or Marvel in the final round just twice between 2016-2023. The rest have either been interstate or in Geelong.

To be fair this is balanced out by playing at home most years in round 1. I think we've only ever played interstate twice in round 1.

Absolutely fair call.

Between 1999 and 2023 we’ve been scheduled to play interstate once and that only game was in 2020 against West Coast in an empty stadium, which is very fortunate.

Although in 2022 and 2023 no Victorian club was fixtured interstate for round 1.

Oh, it’s real. Last year I went there and we were ushered to a parking spot whereat the attendant asked if we were Geelong members (despite being head to toe red n blue with flags n banners in the back seat). We said no and he said that’ll be $15. Curious, I asked him why he needed to know if we were Geelong members to which he replied, “it’s only $10 for Geelong members.” Walking towards the entrance I asked a few Geelong fans what they’d paid and they all said $10.

Thanks. I can' brleive this is allowed.

First question to Attendant:  " By what authority?"  He / she will have no idea.  Then turn off the engine till they offer $10 entry.

Dangerfield going for Olympic gold in the high dive. He attempted a reverse triple somersault with a forward pike after the merest suggestion of contact, but only managed a belly wacker.  The umpires were suitably impressed and awarded him a free kick.

Plus Dangerfield appealing for a free kick every single time he doesn’t win the ball….

Flop-alop-a-lot, but I can't work out of he's Bill or Ben?

Nice to see that Sam gets a mention too.

I just assumed it was allowed. No one else who’d paid $15 had an issue but that may’ve been because they didn’t know Geelong members were only paying $10.

Exactly. I suspect this is the same legal context as the G. A Crown land reserve run by the MCGTrust. No way can the dees and tiges vary entry fees to that precinct.

It only happens because its gone unchallenged. What we do is coordinate all entry points on game day to have a car load of dees supporters at each entry point simultaneously and call the bluff.

And have the Herald sun on stand by.

Anyway, In the first instance I plan to write a formal complaint to the Kardinia Park Trust and seek the authority and/or justification for this approach.

Were you parking just in the general grassy areas surrounding the stadium and from which road did you enter? Moorabool st or Latrobe Terrace?

This club has always  been elitist now the new stadia have been built and good luck affording the seat prices for ordinary geelong folk.

the army should let the club know, who could raise it with geelong.  shocking behaviour

it doesn't seem to be a member benefit either, just who you support and with no proof

Not sure, Daise. I’m guessing had we said yes to the question of are we Geelong members, we might’ve then been asked for proof of membership. But it might be like at the Sporting Globe. We get the members’ discount but don’t get asked to show proof of membership. The same for the Demon Shop.

Further to my outrage the following is the relevant clause under the Act which empowers the Trust to charge fees to a major event.  (The Kardinia Park Trust Act 2016:

"....KARDINIA PARK STADIUM ACT 2016 - SECT 38

Powers in relation to agreements and arrangements

The power conferred on the Trust by an event management declaration to enter into agreements or arrangements with an event organiser may include agreements or arrangements relating to—

        (a)     the organisation or conduct of the Kardinia Park event; or

        (b)     the occupation and use by the event organiser of any part of the area to which the declaration applies; or

        (c)     the fees to be charged by the event organiser for entry into the area to which the declaration applies and the payment of fees by the event organiser to the Trust...."

Thus the fees are set with no necessary power by the event organiser (AFL in this case - and would they discriminate against Away members. I don't think so)  to vary.    I suspect the reply will be that the parking fee is set at $15.00 and cats fans receive a discount.  If so, then the discounted amount MUST be paid to the Trust by the club, or its a true dicriminatory process for Away team members by the Trust for which they are not empowered. Their opening headline on their Trust website is:...... .

WE PROUDLY RUN THIS STATE ASSET ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF VICTORIA.

The people of Victoria is a key Crown land principle in the State.

I'll seek a repsonse on behalf of the members and fans  of 17 other AFL clubs.

We were parked on the grassy surrounds. I wasn’t the driver but since I paid for parking it was me who interacted with the parking guy. I asked the driver which road we used to enter the hellhole and she sent me this…

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
