Demons up by 2 points after a Tmac behind from the far half forward line.

Happy with what I've seen so far. It's a hot day in the sun but the boys are working hard, look fit and hungry.

Field kicking has been impressive. Goal kicking not so much.

Kozzy on the siren!!! TMac provides the contest and Pickett picks up the crumbs!

Set shot goal kicking 😱

This is why we are cactus without Fritta

Few too many 40 out chances when you’d want them inside 30 but we’re getting decent enough shots.

our game plan just isn’t tear it up free running footy. It’s controlled kicking and burst from congestion runner

But a rivers kick to Chandler that set up a scoring shot was indicative of a willingness to attack more.

It’s really windy here.

Is the wind favoring one end more?

Early thoughts

- Hunter looks a player. Had about 8 touches (all constructive) and a goal.

- Oliver and Petracca: Business at usual.

- TMac imposing early.

- Gawn started in the ruck before Grundy came on about 10 minutes in. Gawn then took the final 5 or so minutes.

- McVee had a couple of nice moments.

Early returns on Pickett mid and Rivers having a rotation are both promising without being spectacular.

ANB also took a wing rotation that I assumed might be Spargo or Harmes

Langdon haircut?

Yep. Harder to make out on the far wing now. Got the buzz cut a few months ago. Doesn't look like he is planning on growing it back.

Any indication that Gawn or Grundy will contribute when not rucking, or should we get used to seeing one of them on the bench all day?

One of our better first sixths.

8ths

Grundy, Pickett, Viney and Sparrow at centre bounce. ANB takes Hunters place on members wing.

Goal to petracca. So quick.

Edit: might be Hunter on the far wing. Hard to tell him and Langdon apart from distance with Lingers haircut.

This chick commentating is way better than underwood

Jess Webster, yep.

Seems to have just the right tone for the occasion. Pleased to be there, keeping the conversation going during slow patches without sending it off the rails, lifting the energy a bit for good passages of play but not going over the top.

I guess the short summary is she seems like someone it'd be good to watch the football with.

Would need to take a LOT of unidentified white powder before becoming unhinged enough to commentate a friday night game, though.

Melbourne kick an early one in the second as Gawn crashes the pack, allowing Trac to walk into goal

Bowey with a lovely defensive mark.

Kozzy doing it all over the ground at the moment

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
