I just tried with AFLW member bar codes and nope, nuthin

I’m okay with the venue because Brisbane won the right to the ‘home ground advantage’ (albeit by a measly .1%), but I’ll be seriously angry if the shifting surface costs us because of an ‘in game’ or ‘long term’ injury.

The AFL are taking a significant risk on this front, imo!

Typo

I am not much of a watcher or follower of AFLW but to have the game at 1.40PM in Springfield on sat avo is ridiculous and dangerous. Springfield is also a couple of degrees hotter too

The weather up here has been stinking hot and humid.

Very bad decision.

Officially sold out.

They're very good at very bad decisions.

It's nuts. The combination of $10 per ticket and grab up to 10 tickets per person was way stupid.

I would imagine there will be a tiny amount of Demons supporters there. It's really not fair for supporters of both clubs in the end.

Capacity of 8000 people. What was it in Adelaide? Around 53000 at the final.

And as for the Lions CEO touting how the stadium is as good as anything in the NFL when theirs currently seats 600 people while the rest will be standing in 35 degree heat on the day.

The 50m arcs touch the centre square on a brand new stadium being built in the middle of nowhere. It's like John Clarke with the 97.5m 100m running track.

It's an hour by train ride from Brisbane central and then a 24 minute walk to the stadium. It's worse than Metricon.

Even Southport holds 8000 and would have more established facilities, transport, cover and accommodation.

Plus the heat and surface risk to the players.

The only silver lining I can see is that long term they are going to force Lions players to travel to Ipswich to train when most of them live in inner east Brisbane.

The AFL are just complete clowns.

The AFL and the Lions are doing a disservice to the women's game

Does Nicole Livingson have any clue I wonder? It doesn't appear so

I hope we beat the Lions because it would serve them right. Small club mentality. Those comments from their CEO are laughable

This article is about women's soccer, and Sam Kerr.

But reading it  I couldn't help but see the parallels to the AFLW.

I’d never missed the start of a men’s World Cup. Sam Kerr changed all that

That is such a great summation @binman

There really is less fuss, staging, niggling, complaining, rubbish with the women's game. They just compete hard. It's what I love about football.

I love watching the likes of Clarry out in the middle. His skills are almost Supernatural but one day there'll be a Sam Kerr in the AFLW and I really hope she's a demon.

There's also a parallel between the ineptitude of FIFA and the AFL as well.

If Sam Kerr was a bloke, she'd be the most well known highly paid sportsperson in this country.

Great article.

Thanks for posting that and yeah defs huge similarities there.

It’s beside the point but how bloody good is Sam Kerr?! She’s phenomenal.

Letting people buy 10 tickets at a time for a severely limited capacity venue would be the biggest extraction of pi$$ ever. I did it about a minute in and got GA ticket #18 so either there was a fair rush on in the next few minutes or they're going to discover a few tickets after getting the positive publicity for selling out quickly.

Yep. Tried and missed out. Gil as the CEO is at fault here but like all good people in power/politicians you don't here from them when the poo hits the fan. Bit like the Premier up here in Qld. Gets out in front of cameras when a good news story is to be said but goes into hiding when it gets tough. Let's hope our girls get going not like the powers to be when it get's tough.

By the way where is the Women's CEO. Livingston or somebody like that I presume. Got no idea about footy.

That's it for me on the ranting. Enough said and nothing will change those idiots at AFL HQ. Just do it Ladies and give the Lions a horrible hiding in the heat up here on Sunday.

It's Sunday BTW and about 30 deg is forecast which means about 32/33 deg. inland !!

It looks like we may not even see the oval before the game:

Melbourne midfielder Maddison Gay said the Demons weren’t worried about only accessing the ground on game day...It would be nice even to just see the ground but if not, that’s OK as well...We’ve played home and away games and not been on the field before the game day anyway so it won’t be too different.”  aflw-grand-final

Gay towing the company line nicely but not too convincingly🙄

I thought I read somewhere that Lions will be training there this week.  Can anyone clarify?  Surely, both teams should be given equal access.

I have been accepting of Springfield because the Lions won the right.  However, if they train on it and we don't I will be really cranky about it.  It is within the AFLW's power to ensure equal access to both teams.  Hopefully, our leaders are pushing for this.

Does anyone know where and when the women are training this week? I'd love to take the kids along if they are open sessions

Yeah, the lions were training there last night for the first time I believe.

I really hope we [censored] them.

Any idea why we don't get a training run there.

Surely the club would fly up Thursday or at the very latest Friday to give us a chance to adjust to the weather so there would be time to fit in a session or two?

I had a look at Gosch's last night, no one was training.

My guess is that they will be there tonight, Tuesday.  Start time could be anywhere between 5.30 to 6.30 pm.

Another guess would be for a Thursday night run, unless they are already in Brisbane.

The W awards are on tonight from 7.30 pm. If they are training, my guess is they will start at the earlier time.

Thursday at 5:30pm at Gosch’s.
We’ll be putting on the obligatory BBQ 😁

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
