This should be a tougher match against the Bulldogs 3:10 Sunday October 9 at Casey. The Bulldogs have just come off 2 losses after being undefeated in the first for weeks while Melbourne have lost 1 game for the year and that was to Brisbane. The Dees beat Fremantle by 30 points last week while the Bulldogs lost by a point to Geelong.

I expect Sherriff to be back this week and that should be the only change.

Possible team

B: Birch, Gillard

HB: Goldrick, Gay, Heath

C: Mithen, Purcell, Paxman

HF: Hore, Zanker, Bannan

F: D.Pearce, Harris

FOLL: L.Pearce, West, Hanks

IC: Sherriff, Lampard, Mackin, Duffy, Fitzsimon

The doggies have had a soft run. they've beaten GWS, Freo, Port and the Hawks who are all siting in the bottom 6. They've been beaten by North and Geelong

We'll beat them handy I reckon.

It will be interesting to see if Heath gets more midfield time this week. Her 4th qtr cameo against Freo was pretty promising

This will be Kate Hore's 50th game!

Upcoming potential 50-game milestones for the remainder of this season:

Daisy (48), Lampard (46) | Finals pending | Zanker (45)

By 3:10 all the stacks would have happened at Bathurst and it will probably be a parade under safety cars.  Will be time to switch over and watch the Dees!

IQ says hullo !!!

Hoping for a win to make Katie’s 50th memorable! 🤩

And not just a win, but a belting since our percentage needs to ⬆️

Fun fact: our 2022 Demon Army members caps were made by Graeme Yeats. 😃 Well not by him per se, although who knows he may loves him a bit of millinery from time to time, but by his company.

Left out a comma 😱

The sun’s shining and minimal chance of rain forecast for this arvo. It’s windy af but that’s better than raining.

An observation…

I rarely have occasion to visit the eastern suburbs and haven’t in the longest time. The stark contrast between here and where I live is astounding! I mean, where are all your meth-heads at? And I’ve yet to see even one person walking around wrapped in a doona (dual purpose- warm bedding by night and warm cape by day). And y’all’s shoplifters selling their wares, where are they? Haven’t seen anyone sitting cross legged on the footpath selling 3-packs of Bonds jocks for $5 a pack. Do your ne’er-do-wells observe the Sabbath or something? I’m also having to adjust to walking around freely, not having to be mindful of avoiding treading on used syringes! I feel like I’m on another planet.

LOL I just saw some other people here at Cranbourne station obvs also headed to today’s game. They’re in Bulldogs gear and have the exact same discombobulated look as I do. Fellow westies, for sure. 😁

GO DEES!!!!

Agree @BDA

Meggs is in USA with no coverage unfortunately so will be appreciatively monitoring this thread for updates 😎

2 bounces from Mackin. Missed the kick into the corridor earlier but not afraid to take it on. I think she's going to a good player for us

Dees playing with the wind 1st quarter leading 1 goal to zip. Very scrappy start. No fluency from us thus far

Mackin burnt a couple of times by teammates when she was out in the clear and in best position.

Need to fix this up, I hope Mick is on top of it.

compose yourself Tayla.

Goldy giving away the freekicks is a momentum killer

bannan with the goal but looked like a push in the back by Zanker in the lead-up. thems the breaks. we'll take it

Dees 2.3.15 to 1.0.6 for the doggies

Dominant quarter but goal kicking letting us down

Dees 3.8.26 to doggies 1 straight

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
