This game would usually be a cracker as Fremantle have been a top side for so many years but this year has been different. Fremantle have only won 1 game and a draw. Melbourne on the other hand have won 4 games. With Harris dominating the forward line and Hanks, Purcell and West dominating the midfield I'm expecting the Dees to dominate and win by 20 points. I think there will be no changes after that dominant display at Ikon Park.

Possible team

B: Birch, Gillard

HB: Goldrick, Lampard, Gay

C: Mithen, Purcell, Paxman

HF: Hore, Zanker, Bannan

F: D.Pearce, Harris

FOLL: L.Pearce, West, Hanks

IC: Duffy, Sherriff, Mackin, Heath, Fitzsimon

Thanks Werridee. Aside from the injured McNamara that’s the strongest side we can field. Unlike the early years where the gulf between the top few players (Daisy, Paxy, Elise O’dea) and the bottom ten was enormous, we are now a much more even side.

The bench you have of Sherriff, Heath, Duffy, Mackin and Fitzsimmons is strong. Just on Duffy she is only going to get better with each game and, hopefully, will be fully firing by the time finals come around. A zippy goal kicker is what we desperately are missing. Some of her highlights below.

For the Demons now it is all about deciding whether we want to be great or just really good.

Got to go hard all game, not just dominate the early game then cruise once we are looking secure.

Agreed. She needs to get into better condition though. She's carrying a little extra timber for a zippy forward

Bad habits picked up from the mens team it would appear

Yep, we need to get our percentage back above Adelaide, or we're looking at playing finals interstate. It would be really nice to belt Freo again this time around.

West and Purcell have sorted out our contested ball issues, but now we struggle to move the ball with any speed. A couple of line breaking mids / HBFs would be ideal. Maybe Goldrick when she gets back to full fitness or Heath if we push her back up the ground.

I think this is a major reason why we stop scoring after half time. Slow ball movement allows teams to get numbers back, and our kicking is not good enough to consistently find targets inside forward 50.

Freo have regressed significantly but it's still a tough ask to beat them over there. We won big last year because they were decimated due to Covid. Any complacency on our part might well be punished. Be professional and win the game first and foremost.

Crows, Lions, North all need to play each other so will drop games. Let's win all our games and we're in a great position.  Get over Freo and we have a soft run home so plenty of time to boost percentage as well.

Watching the st kilda v pies game and I've just seen the worst miss ever. running in with not a pies defender near her and the st kilda player misses from 2 metres. never seen anything like it

Sherriff been playing well I though so surprised at her omission

And the Pies take the lead with a minute to go with a snap shot goal … and they win by 2 points. Reminiscent of how they won half their games during the Mens season.

IT was a fluke as well. Throw it on the boot and hope for the best. On balance the pies deserved to win though

some bizarre umpiring decisions already. The Freo player drops the ball in the tackle but gets a freekick because the tackle lingered

Hanks excellent early

Kate Hore needs to spend this week on goal kicking practice. Very wayward this year so far. A gilt edged opportunity passed up

She was 15 out, running into an open goal, kicked it on the full. Sorry, but if you saw the Saints girl do it yesterday from the actual goal square, you would have to conclude this is a lack of skill across the competition issue.

Hore is one of our more skilled players, but her goal kicking has let her down all season.

She's been reliable previously but this year for some reason her accuracy has fallen off a cliff

The umpiring has been bloody dreadful. Umps have their purple jocks on. We look a bit flat so hopefully they can wake up.

Freo well up for this game. Brining plenty of heat. Bowers very influential so far.  We'll have to play well to get the W today

Freo are playing pretty well with better skills, hopefully we will wear them down. Think our girls may have looked at the ladder, remembered the thrashing we gave them last time and have thought it was going to be easy

Tayla Harris is getting it done though

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
