rpfc 29,029 Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Assuming we went tall forward hunting and flamed out, one benefit might be with these long term contracts to CP5, AB10, and CO13 is the ability to upfront some of what we owe. That will make it easier to target players longer term. Small comfort but still valuable. I kind of want them to keep their powder dry from here and see what our hand looks like next year and target a King in the North maybe… 3 Quote

Gold Coast have already stated they're keen on improving their draft position for next year. Maybe we could tempt them with pick 13, F1 and F2 for pick 5? What are we chasing in pick 5 when next year's draft is a super draft by all accounts. Cadman is gone, I would of suggested us trying to move higher next year 2 Quote
dazzledavey36 56,340 Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Hawthorn potentially losing Gunston, Mitchell and now O'Meara just reeks of Melbourne of 2013 when we completely gutted our senior heads. 6 Quote

Dees should trade our picks 13, 27 and F2 to Cats in return for their picks 7 and 25. Dees then trade 25 to filth for Grundy (i.e. filth want a top 25 pick). Cats trade 13 to filth for Henry (i.e. filth want a first round pick). Trading out Weid, Hunt, Bedford frees up $1m so Dees can target Whitfield (or Georgiades) using future first round picks. Dees bring in Grundy, Whitfield (or Georgiades) and go to draft with pick 7. 3 Quote

Cadman is gone, I would of suggested us trying to move higher next year A fair point and certainly an option for us. As is simply having the extra trade capital to lure an established player at the end of next year. However, we have repeatedly traded into the first round with futures and currently have the most capital in that space since future trades were introduced. I'd be surprised to a degree if we don't move up the board in some capacity, be it 1st or 2nd round. A few media reports stated we were keen on a top 7 pick which would suggest we had a player in mind that we're quite keen on in the early part of the draft. As for top 5, if any of Sheezel, Wardlaw or Tsatas get through to that pick we will have done well in my view, while we are reportedly tracking Ginbey closely. The trade I suggested, while a lot, would still leave us with a pick in each round for next year's draft as well. After saying all that, I think it's highly unlikely we'll obtain a top 5 pick this year. 3 Quote

TRIGON 4,821 Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Gunston, maybe Mitchell and O'Meara too...are the Hawks setting themselves up for a Trade-Period' induced 'tank' ahead of next year's supposedly superior draft pool? 4 Quote

Wow. That’s the midfield gutted and a very very good goalkicker. I’d say they are aiming already at Harley Reid or Ashton Moir in the ‘23 draft. 1 Quote
Stiff Arm 4,420 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 (edited) I thought Gunston was a certainty to come to us as FA? Or did GNF mean this fellow: Edited October 11, 2022 by Stiff Arm 5 5 Quote
Deeko2 865 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Jeepers, the Lions are really having a crack this off-season. Other than the final when we were clearly cooked, our midfield has bullied them for quite a while. Adding in Dunkley and Ashcroft will see a massive lift here and Gunston adds some further fire power. They are going to be very good in 2023. I'm a big fan of Big Red's post above around having a crack at Whitfield. Bringing him offsets our 'B Grade' forward line with TMac, BBB and a young JVR as the ball movement and delivery will significantly improve. 6 Quote
DeeZone 10,593 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Is it just me, I feel exhausted by this trade period so far, as it appears that everyone has achieved their goals bar us. The Hunt trade for steak knives from the AFL left me feeling angry, Bedfords trade helped get Jacko deal over the line and we still didn’t crack into the top 10 ( for a Unicorn?) and we still haven’t completed the trade for Grundy. Now Weid has been dropped into the pan for what gain? And we are still trying to offload Thommo. I am hoping that Weid and Thommo will be player swaps to help ease my anxiety levels.!!! 1 Quote
Kiwi Dee 88 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 The true unicorn here is the Top 10 pick that we didn't get. Make no mistake we got absolutely shafted here. Having said that there was simply nothing we could have done about it. If we let him walk he goes to WCE for free or worse yet he goes to Freo for free and they laugh at us even more. The Dees had to take this terrible deal and we'll go through this again next year with Kossi and Port will do the same thing to us and we'll have to lump it. 1 Quote
