2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

If North can pre-list Sanders then they may go McKercher to try and keep mates together and avoid a pull to the new Tassie team.

North are reasonably well off in the midfield with LDU, Simpkin, Thomas, Sheezel, Wardlaw, etc.

They might want to add one but not two.

They desperately need quality small forwards and probably a replacement for McKay.

Indeed. That's why I highlighted Curtin and Watson as other candidates for their pick.

Changed my mind again.

Trade up, take two top 10 picks to the draft and one inside 15 as there'll be a couple of sliders.

I think we need a spread of talent across the field and a new generation of talent coming through together rather than all chips in on one.

I think it'd give us a boost like Sydney have experience with their influx of high end talent over an off-season a few years ago.

It'd also allow us the flexibility to trade for a ready made player/forward/back which needs to come under serious consideration given May's age, Petty's injury, Brown and McDonald's form/age/injury history.

I can see Reid being unbelievable for us. But it's clear our problems lie in an array of areas that he won't fix alone. And selling the farm for him seems a big risk, especially long-term.

How do you feel about Duursma, as that's how I see it tracking?

You'd say so Skuity! He was invited to pre-season training with us. Has played for Casey this year and apparently has been at the club a number of times. Think the club identified Zane some time back...

That's all part of my reasoning dee-tox, but Tim Lamb must have been a clairvoyant to have worked out that Zane would fall almost exactly at Fremantle's eventual future first! I'm guessing we would have been prepared to trade up to snag him if we had lower picks and saw the potential, but the options and variables have opened up a bit now. Fancy discussing all the permutations over a pint sometime? I'm presently back in the neighbourhood.

I think we will have a go at trading for GC's 1st pick.

We will have to cough up a future 1st plus one or both 2023 2nd rounders and a little back.

Taylor and Lamb have shown over the years they will have no hesitation to use next years first and pay it forward.

I don't see us taking 4 picks under 30ish. we just dont have the list spots or the depth need to bring in 4-5 18yo this year. You can see with Laurie and Howes we just cant fit them in the team, form not withstanding. What we can fit in the 22 is high end talent. That's why I can see us offering the world for pick 1 or CG 5 and taking 1 or 2 high end talent instead of 4 top 30.

Foxsports draft wrap, including a bit on Duursma and the potential for him to line up for Casey on more occasions and be viewed up close by the Dees list management team:

The North compo pick really dictates the early draft. Their list manager (Rawlings) made comment yesterday that 'end of first round or second round compensation is not what we're after', and that they'd rather match the offer as a restricted free agent than lose him for that. They're really pushing for start of first round compo, so pick 3. If they got pick 3, then Eagles are less likely to trade pick 1 backwards and we'd lose access to Reid. Or, if we didn't trade up, our pick drops and we potentially lose access to someone like Mckercher, Curtin, Duursma that we'd targeted. Fingers crossed for us and the whole league that North don't get pick 3.

On the potential for pick 3 for the Roos, in no way is Ben Mckay worth a first round pick as compo. On 2023 form, he's lost 41% of one on one contests, which ranks him as the worst key defender in the league. Outright statistically worst tall defender in the league. He's only averaged a bit under 2 intercept marks a game. For context, May has lost 21%, Lever 25%. Tomlinson surprisingly has been our strongest defender in the contest, and has only lost 12% of one on one contests and averages a bit over 1 intercept mark a game, including matches where he's been subbed off. If Ben McKay is worth a first round pick, then so is Tomlinson, and we all know neither are.

I'm still hopefully we'll be able to put picks together to trade for pick 1 and land Reid. He looks like an incredible prospect and it would be so damaging and exciting having him form a rotation of devastation between midfield and forward line with Petracca.

The way compo is tied into the dollar value of deals is wrong. Seems way too easy to manipulate.

He is always injured, he's not actually very good, as your stats highlight, then I ask how much more help do North need?

Hawks hot on Duursma with pick 3 according to Cal Twomey on gettable. Feel like if we can't acquire pick 1 he'd be close to next on the list for us.

That would be interesting because it might mean the club that has a footprint in the State prefers Duursma ahead of one of the two Tasmanians McKercher and Sanders.

I would like to know what our recruiting people think about chasing youngsters from Tassie in light of their recent licence. There is still no guarantee that they will enter the competition in 2028 especially if the proposed new fixed-roof stadium can’t be built a Hobart's Macquarie Point.

I just got an advert for Duursma's Air Conditioning on Demonland. They also have lines in drive technology and hoisting equipment. While disappointed that I wasn't offered the opportunity to meet singles in my area, I'm sprinkling those tea leaves on a muffin.

Gee... imagine if we traded up and landed Curtain and Duursma, as well as Kynan Brown... maybe Freo's 2nd rounder (24) in there as well

Our 2023 1st (18) and 2024 1st (18) for GC Pick 7. Maybe our 2nd if need be (36). These will be pushed back with bid matches

4 + 7 + 24 + Brown

Archer Reid with 24

Wowee, oh boy!!!

Why would Suns do that trade? Some of the suggested trades I see on here are amazing.

Maybe see if Suns will throw in Ben King as well as I think you’ve offered them too much.

    BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
