I see on the news that rent prices in Victoria are now the lowest in Australia. But that whats happens when Gawn is living rent free in the head of every Geelong player coach and fan.

The mere suggestion that I should work with that sleaze-bag deserves a Royal Commission.

No one can ignore the Uncle Bitter charm offensive for long WCW!

Don’t know about ‘charm’ but you’re spot on with ‘offensive’

Well I wasn’t suggesting a candlelit dinner at The Manor right off the bat WCW but surely a post match prandial moment at Hooters would be sublime?

You old romantic, you.

Geelong have strung together six wins in a row, but the highest ranked of those opponents is Richmond, in seventh now, who they only just scraped past.

Their whole midfield/medium-sized player pool is quality without being exceptional. Yes, even Dangerfield and Selwood are now just quality without being exceptional. That will make for an interesting coaching challenge - our 'best' centre clearance midfield ought to shred theirs, but then their second rotation will be basically the same quality as their first. I have a feeling we will see some brutal momentum turns when Petracca is brought into the middle at the same time as the other prime movers are sent in after a refresh.

Missing Stewart and now apparently Kolodjashnij as well not only shrinks their defence, it really reduced their intercept marks. On both counts that'll suit us as we will have more forward-50s actually stay in our forward 50, and when they do come out it'll be a little less clean and will often play literally into the hands of our harass-and-intercept game.

Their forward line is more of a problem because we won't have so much luxury to move off opponents when they have the two potent talls up there. Stengle also worries me as just the kind of small forward who has always, always caused us trouble.

I also think we might see our own forwards break loose a bit. For all that Ben Brown has struggled for form, I think he goes a step faster than anyone they have who is tall enough to go with him. I also think Fritsch will beat any given opponent they might send to him; when it isn't by mobility, it'll be out-contesting or by sheer cleverness.

Got to admit, I really would like to make Geelong our bunny team, now and forever.

Geelong will be exhausted, exposed and much slower at the ball in the last half of the second quarter, getting more incapable of stopping the Dees all over the ground and by the fourth quarter, most of the Geelong players will be able to statically watch how it is done. If you're going to the game, take some carrots - bunnies love 'em.

Here’s something I prepared earlier.

Guess which team (other than Geelong, of course) has played the most times at Kardinia Park this century?

Melbourne. 18 times.

Guess which team has played the least times?

Collingwood. Zero. (Oh and Essendon once, Hawthorn and Carlton thrice.)

The lack of integrity and fairness in the fixture is, to me, the biggest blight on our great game. What elite, professional sporting league in the world would allow such a discrepancy to occur, where an ‘away’ team, a so-called big club, doesn’t play at another team’s home venue for over 20 years, while another team plays there almost every friggin’ year? It infuriates me.

It’s like telling Manchester United they don’t need to play at Bournemouth, ever, while Liverpool does.

I am sick to death of the fixture’s inherent inequity, and our collective acceptance of it (or is it apathy).

If we can’t have a pure 34-game home-and-away season (which would be fair and ideal for an 18-team comp), then let’s have a 17-game season. Play each team once, alternate between playing at home one season and away the next, no questions asked, no compromises entertained. Collingwood plays down at Geelong, it’s a sell-out, so be it.

People forget that for the first 90 years of the VFL, the fixture was built on playing each team twice, home and away. There were 8 teams and 14 rounds in the first VFL season in 1897. This nonsense that we have to be wedded to a 22-round season no matter the number of teams we have is, well, nonsense. The 22-round season only came into effect when the league had expanded to 12 teams in 1925. When the league moved to 14 teams in 1987, the season inexplicably remained at 22 rounds.

Now, of course, the fixture is a complete mess having strayed more and more from first principles, leading to the quite absurd scenario pointed out at the top of this post and illustrated in the attached table.

The inequity of this is so sus. It sucks. Really should be some sort of enquiry into this.

All good, AC/DeeC. Apparently that’s sorted. 😑

Not really. The uprade has for years sucked out available state grants from geelong in other areas. The new library just completed . The arts precinct only now being rebuilt. Yet down the road for a lousy 9 times a year for less than capacity crowds in nearly all games all the main capex money was spent on a ground that is the wrong shape anyway years earlier than many needed projects.

Btw find 60 dollars if you want a seat.

This club is elitist and most geelong people don't or can't afford to attend.

That would explain why there are so many empty seat when viewing on TV. If there is one empty seat tonight (as you cannot book one with crap booking system) I think I will explode. Crap ticket system, crap ground, crap club and PROTECTED by the AFL oh and also by current state government. (Grants - buying votes). Real name of the ground is "Taxpayer Stadium". Where's my coffee to settle down.

Max Gawn stand under construction

Yes and the ground is 30 metres narrower than the G and other grounds. Therein lies the problem. Lack of planning foresight at the time lost the opportunity to make the ground an afl dimension. It could have been achieved but the simple route was taken.

Like Gosch's?

It’s a bit on the nose to name the stand after the club owner…

  • AFLW PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
