For anyone watching - are Weeds marking and goals impressive or easy goals/free kicks?

Thats better from Laurie.  Chandler doing quite well.  Pretty standard.  Run under a couple he probably could have marked in contests but doing quite well so far (at this level).

he's working the f50 perfectly, just as he always does as the main option

he and sideshow bob essentially play the same role - it's no surprise that they struggle to gel as a key forward combination

Interesting that our otherwise magnificent brains trust can’t work out something that will get / allow the combination to work.
Something like -

1/ Ben you lead right, Sam stay home

2/ Sam, you lead left, Ben, you stay home.

Surely that sort of thing would have to stop double teaming and keep the defenders on their toes, even if either of BB SW had no intention of the ball coming their way that time. Can’t double team both.

Never want to see umpire Nicholls in the AFL again. Absolutely clueless.

Bounced one metres beyond the circle and didn’t recall it.   Do the umpire selectors just go on how many recalls are done so it is better for a poor bouncer to just ignore recalls.

Weid’s getting to it a lot, but two-grabbing almost every time, and getting spoilt. Turner, Van Rouyen and Ellison’s marking hands are better. Would be shocked if someone doesn’t pick up Ellison in the MSD.

I believe the MSD was just this week. I don't think Ellison was selected?

My God Michael Hibberd is a good footballer.

Piggy having a VN second half.  Spreading & sharing well

Casey forwards can't buy a mark

There's no immediate genuine KF option.  Mitch handy as a lead up or tall (get ball to ground) back up option for this season.

Will need to trade in a big hitting impact forward for 2023 imv.

Any notes on AVR?  How is he handling the slippery conditions?

he wasn't, given that it was during the week

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
