Plenty? I read most threads on here and I can't recall a single person saying this.

Were they all married?

Need a few others of our players in the Casey side to be chosen as players with more potential than others to be signed up to ensure or try st least. To have two or three players each year to step up and into the senior side. Like the old days of Hawks play 80 or so reserves then step up to the ones and play 150 games or more. Keep the dynasty going.  I am sure it requires very careful list and player management.
we stuffed it up for 50 years  we need to do it well.  A bloody hard job. A bit like picking a 2 year old colt as a champion sire.
a job for the experts

go Dees B2B  this year

I'm very please he's got two more years, he's clearly got some attributes but he certainly has a lot of areas to improve.  To say he's close to AFL selection when he wasn't selected with about 5 players out is a stretch.  In my view he's got a long way to go and his selection as emergency is to show him what it's like to prepare for an AFL game.

Agree with he has some great footy attributes. Super clean, a good step and polished disposal. He still though looks like a talented kid used to being fed the ball in junior footy who just needs more time playing against men and learning the Melbourne way. Is progressing well in my view considering the type his and disruptions last year.

Lol.. Out of all the posts on here you've taken mine completely out of context.

Of course he was never going to be part of the 5 players that were coming in this week. But he was never going to be rushed in. He plays the same position as Spargo, ANB, Bedford and  Pickett. He's was obviously next in line.

They were 5 premierships players coming back into the team on top of having quiet game game in the VFL.

I don't understand how saying he's close to AFL selection is being a stretch considering he's been named emergency a few times this year? In fact, against St Kilda he had to be pulled out of the VFL game to warm up with the senior squad.

This is even a quote off Tim Lamb.

“He had a strong off-season and has improved his game to the point that he has found himself on the verge of senior selection, being named an emergency a number of times for our AFL side.

I suppose he's out of line as well ...

Great news. Certainly close to AFL selection and even if he doesn't get a game this year a full VFL season under his belt including finals experience is just as beneficial.

Funny that my first post went completely over your head @Baghdad Bob

Just to be sure could someone please post JT comments on draft night.

JT reassured Goody on draft night that Bowser and Laurie were the two best users of the footy that draft. He emphasised the term 'they're the lovers of the game' several times if i recall correctly. There was discussion about taking a tall (can't remember who) but JT wanted Bowser and Laurie

Incidentally, how good is it that we have two first rounders (Laurie + JvR) developing away at Casey who are yet to debut for the seniors

Great focus for development:

"I try not to focus on how I'm going to fit into the team or whose spot I'm going to take because I feel like if I do, it will negatively impact my performance and I'll start worrying about the wrong things. The conversations I've had with 'Goody' (coach Simon Goodwin) have been around becoming the best player I can be and when I do get my chance, I can come into the team I'll stay there and won't just be there for two weeks and get dropped.

"I'm just focusing on the process of what makes me a good player and becoming a really good player and if that takes a bit longer than other people I'm more than happy with that, I'll just keep working as hard as I can."

Well done for another two years!

I love this quote. Great stuff from Laurie and Goodwin.

I have not seen a lot to suggest Laurie will make it as an AFL player. I have watched about 18 quarters of his matches in the VFL FWIW.

He is small and slow and does not find enough of the footy yet. In 9 VFL games this year Laurie averages 15.5 possessions (8.6 kicks & 6.9 handballs), 1.4 goals, 3.4 tackles and 64 dream team points. While he has decent skills, he is not at Salem or Bowey level. The club obviously likes his attitude and sees more than I do at this stage. I hope they are right and he improves in the second half of the year.

Laurie VFL Stats

R1 Vs Sandringham 2 goals 10 kicks 10 handballs 20 disposals 3 marks 5 tackles 86 dream team points

R2 Vs Essendon 6 kicks 5 handballs 11 disposals 6 tackles 44 dream team points

R3 Vs Williamstown 2 goals 6 kicks 3 handballs 9 disposals 3 tackles 37 dream team points

R4 Vs Coburg 2 behinds 12 kicks 9 handballs 21 disposals 6 marks 2 tackles 79 dream team points

R5 Vs Richmond 1 goal 1 behinds 7 kicks 7 handballs 14 disposals 1 mark 4 tackles 59 dream team points

R6 Vs Box Hill 1 goal 2 behinds 15 kicks 9 handballs 24 disposals 4 marks 2 tackles 89 dream team points

R7 Vs Southport DNP

R8 Vs North Melbourne 4 goals 1 behind 10 kicks 6 handballs 16 disposals 4 marks 2 tackles 85 dream team points

R10 Vs Frankston 1 goal 3 kicks 6 handballs 9 disposals 3 tackles 36 dream team points

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
