Extraordinary. Check it out: the umpire manages to successfully bounce the ball on that mudheap!

Those were the days.  You could be assured of hearing intelligent, well-informed footy talk from a panel who had a natural rapport and who produced moments of genuine good-natured humour.

Contrast that to today's unwatchable Channel 9 Sunday Footy Show numpties with their forced bonhomie, incessant sniggering, smug attitude and obsession with making it all about themselves rather than the actual game itself.

Not sure if your being sarcastic. I know your genuine about today's dribble but I would put this back in the vault and throw the key away.

No sarcasm intended.  I meant every word.

I find it interesting that I can see no-one in the crowd wearing club gear. That's certainly been a huge commercial opportunity grabbed by the AFL clubs (and all professional sports generally) in the last 27 years.

For sure, it's come a long way.

Also this may have been the time when they were giving Brissy tickets away more often to Joe Blows on the street.

Jacko might have been nuts but he kicked 150 goals over two seasons and helped Gerard Healy kick many goals as well.

For 75 goals a year I would happily take the next Jacko.

But were we a better team for having a galah playing for us even with his 75 goals?

I don't remember 12" singles. Were they common? Also, played at 45 or 33 rpm?

Not common but not rare. Often 45 rpm which gave more volume/better treble. I remember Billy Idol had one ‘Got to be your (12 inch) Lover’!

Yes I think Jacko helped turn sport into entertainment. His antics were also a distraction to opponents. Genuine footballer and clown.

Watch this to the end.

What a pleasure! And how beautiful a kick was Travis Johnstone? I had forgotten the pleasure of watching him when he was on song.

Autocorrect wrongly changed it

A couple of excellent kicks from Maloney too.  My memory was full of those high up and under kicks he used to do from the centre clearances. But there were two great passes from him in that quarter.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
