Got Gus good

I wouldn’t say Fritta’s had a quiet season. I believe he’s our leading goal kicker with 17 (with BBB second on 16).

He was quiet today. I’ll grant you that.

Ā

Not sure you could call Fritsch’s season quiet, averaging 2 goals game as third tall (if you can Ā call it that) and has kicked a goal in every game so far this season.

Am guilty of saying he has been average, most goals came over a two week period. I think Fritta is a victim of our expectations, I rate him very highly so probably have unfair expectations of him

Lever - is playing sore

Definitely Chook. Was unable to run to the ball at speed and looked lame at the end as he walked off. Needs to be rested until he is fully mended.Ā

Ā

He's certainly been quieter than last year (especially today) but I haven't minded Fritsch's season so far. He's still on track for 40+ goals which would be a great return from a third tall. Also, I feel that he's been involved in setting up his teammates for goals a fair bit more this year.

EDIT: Just checked the stats and Fritta is ranked third at the club for goal assists this year. Only behind ANB and Petracca.

Petty: not his best. (Too many infringements)

Are you joking

I think it's Fritta's last three weeks that have been quiet, but that's ok. Not worried at all.

No. Perhaps read what I wrote and consider it carefully.

I said it wasn’t Petty’s best. I have seen him play better games.
Apparently you think it was his best game.

He gave away four free kicks which I think is too many. (The team gave away 18. The other members of the back sevenĀ gave away a total of five.)
Apparently you don’t think four is too many. How many do you think would be too many, then?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.Ā

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
