Interesting point

Gave up on their decisions making any sense years ago!

Announcing an August start in March of the same year is another head scratcher - good in the long-run, yes, but a bit more notice would have greatly improved preparations. Some players simply won't be able to play due to this short notice, the quality will suffer, and that's not even considering the four new teams entering...

Also a shame for some of the Irish players who may have played their last games without knowing it.

North Melbourne bow out and Fremantle move on to their Preliminary Final.

The Brisbane v Collingwood game still in limbo?

Apparently the announcement will be Monday.

Meggs watched the game today.  North would be disappointed.  Scott Gowans was sacked as Roos coach and replaced by ex-North player Darren Crocker but Crock hasn’t really improved their list and the players don’t seem to be able to implement his game plan.  A few players have improved this year such as star Ash Riddell, Brooke Brown, Daria Bannister and Mia King but North don’t have the across the board talent like we do.  Meggs thinks signing Grace Campbell, a slow Richmond reject was a mistake.  This years further expansion is going to make it ever harder for everyone.

On the Covid delayed Coll v Bris final, Meggs is worried how this is going to impact our preparations. Is he just being a worry wart?

Full strength Freo are a handful.  Good luck Adelaide 😉 hope you fail Crows…cos won’t we get a home GF if we win our Prelim ?

I'm worried too 2 weeks without football is too much.

The team that can roll with things was always going to come out on top this year - that's been Daisy's mantra from the get-go. On the podcast they talked about a big session planned for this weekend. With no VFLW maybe there were some more players around to make more of that? Hopefully.

Still no update on the postponed Coll v Bris final?!? I hope this doesn’t screw us over..

An undisclosed number of Pies players are close contacts only, so due to come out of the iso on Wednesday apparently. If that brings them up to the required numbers, presumably they'll play next weekend and everything get pushed a week. If they haven't got enough to do that (too many actually have Covid), then I think at that point fairness to the other three teams comes into it, though it's a very tough position to be in.

It's all been delayed a week due to that game being postponed.

Just read that the highest ranked AFLW team at the end of the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s Finals Series will earn the hosting rights of the NAB AFLW Grand Final.

So if Freo knock off the crows and we win ours, does that mean the grand final will be held at *gulp* Casey Fields?

We would host it but unlikely to be at Casey Fields.  More likely Marvel stadium.  A few years ago Crows got a 40k+ crowd at Adelaide Oval for their final.

Technically we lose the Home ground advantage but given how we played in Perth with no wind a closed roof Marvel might suit us very well, if we get there.

The delay could be a concern, but the club has more preparation time.

Free could knock off the. crows, but in Adelaide it will be a challenge.  Rather play them than crows if we make it.

Freo are a definite chance against Adelaide, who have really dropped off in the second half of this year, albeit from being absolutely dominant.

A GF at Marvel would be awesome but a prelim against (presumably) Brisbane will be tough.

Should be two great prelims!

The additional week off is not ideal, but do we have scope to have a few players run around in the VFL this weekend?

Probably the least worst outcome, given that the AFL must have been tempted to play the SF early this week and then the PF on Sunday or Monday to keep the GF date.

Hopefully Collingwood go down kicking and screaming against Brisbane and leave some sore bodies behind.

Hope this doesn’t derail our season. Back in the early 90s, there was an extra week off for Melbourne due to the draw between West Coast and Collingwood and we certainly suffered as a consequence.

The 3 week break is not ideal particularly as Brisbane have tuned up with a simple win against the pies today. Brisbane are the reigning premiers and are now match fit and rested. It's going to be a very tough game for us next week

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
