AFLSE is the governing body which looks after junior football in the region. They cover southern Melbourne jfl, Frankston district jfl, Mornington peninsula jfl, and outer south east jfl, Melbourne and St Kilda are the 2 teams that have access to these leagues. If you are a member of any of these competitions then you can choose either a complimentary junior membership to either Melbourne or St Kilda. I coach girls football in a league that is in St Kilda’s region and my daughter is in St Kilda’s Generation Academy but have the option to nominate Melbourne as her club. From the girls side of things St Kilda seem to be going for quantity over quality for their academy teams which maybe a reflection of where their AFLW side is at. All reports I hear is that Melbourne is doing a great job with marketing and development in its region and a premiership will certainly help.

Giving free Memberships to kids is all very nice and positive, but if the team isn’t winning regularly, it won’t matter.
Kids want to watch winning teams, maybe more than decades before.
My neighbors young boy is 12 and has been a Whorethorn follower since the 3 in a row, now he doesn’t want to watch them.
i know it’s only 1 example, but the losing teams are not cool in school.

smjfl is very much st kilda's zone, not melbourne's, at least judging by my son's experience

a couple of years back it was so blatant that if you signed up as a junior you got a complimentary saints membership

The set of steak knives thrown in used to be the less valuable commodity. Have things changed, or was a St Kilda membership worth less than an SMJFL one?

pretty sure it was gifted as an area to the aints as part of gilligan's largesse towards his side

Humour me - if this was incorrect, it would be maddening, would it not? How are we not taking up this opportunity to engage with thousands upon thousands of AFL playing kids at an age where they are known to switch allegiances to winning teams, where sponsors would pay for all the branding and merch just they can get their products under the kids noses at the same time?

take it to an aints board, cos we don't have any interactivity with the area anymore

By winning games we will engage with 1000’s of kids

Free Memberships get thrown in the bin, if the team isn’t successful

Why do you think we got Casey in the first place?

Nobody else wanted it.
We have been engaging with school kids out there since Day 1

The only real interest these kids will have is if we continually Make Finals and win the big games. I think it is you, who is having trouble with comprehension.

Kids do not follow losers, unless they are forced with starvation

Pert was CEO for the Pies last flag when they lost c$1.5m on merchandise after miscalculating demand,

Let's hope he learned his lesson

Most of that was merchandise in the form of dentures which had teeth already missing.

Supply exceeded demand.

My memory is hazy, but I don’t think this thread fully captures the sentiment. I lost a lot of enthusiasm for this forum after too many deleted posts for daring to raise the topic for discussion that maybe our senior leadership had faults.

I take no pleasure in this but I feel like maybe now some are starting to see.

Viva la revolution.

Keep posting mate, you do add some quality content.

Well we certainly haven’t become much of a brand…

A lot of those facepalmers look ridiculous now. Welcome back, @Mach5

Now I have to go back and see if I’m one of those, not that I need to do that to make myself look ridiculous 😂

I did the same haha although I deliberately don't make a habit of facepalming.

Never easy going against the grain here. I just did it in another thread, doesn't feel great, you sometimes feel stupid.

Stand up for what you believe in.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
