Having started following Melbourne in 1965, I was also a member of the "57 years" club.

A Demons flag was also the last item on my bucket list to be ticked off but the initial euphoria wore off much quicker than it obviously has for many of you.  Maybe I'm just old*, jaded and hard to impress these days.

*  So old that last time I attended an antiques auction, I attracted three bids.

You may be a bit jaded and a bit hard to please Demonstone But you are very sharp witted and humourous.!!

I will be on my death bed and they’ll ask if I have any final wishes. My last words will be, “play it from the Bont’s goal in the third.” 😁

Watching Live I was at my angriest and smashed my telly remote to pieces, cost me 69 dollars to replace but now I can't help but smile at that part of the game. Thanx Bont.

That’s a great question. Having given it some *thought I reckon I’d still knock back the $$$.

Well, just a question. How are the bettor and the bettee going to stop any team winning a flag "in their lifetime"?

We humiliated Geelong twice in a month. And more importantly we're premiers. Who cares about losses from a decade ago?

I still hate Essendon and Hawthorn for two of the worst days I've had to endure as a Melbourne Demon. Makes winning this year so tasty tho.

I remember that but it wasn't me who posted it.

I expect I'll get pilloried for saying this, but that's just how I feel.  "Is that all there is, my friends?"

I've had various euphoric moments since the win

A few examples ...

Once it sunk in that the flag was in the record books and can never be taken away from us, that was the moment.

Often hearing or seeing 'Reigning Premier' is another reinforcement ... we get that for the whole year too especially if we go deep into the finals again

And it's OK to brag when the overwhelming majority recognise that we were clearly the best team in 2021

There were no unlucky tales from the opposition either ... we were too good for them

We could win more flags with this group of players but 2021 will remain the breakthrough moment and probably the most memorable for that reason

Much like 2005, 2007 & 2017 could be the most memorable premiership years for Swans, Cats & Tiger supporters.  1990 for Collingwood?  1975 for North?

And speaking of '190' (the Fitzroy loss), our combined margin of victory during the 2021 finals was .... 190 points!

Find the QR code for that moment and follow Nathan Vardy's idea 😉

I wish someone gifted in the area unlike myself could do a QR code for the 3rd Quarter blitz.

I bet you were that kid who told other kids the whole Santa thing is fake coz in order to get presents to every kid in the world in one night he’d have to defy pretty much every single law of physics. 😆

Oh Mauriesy, you’ve never played a game of “would you rather…” ???

You can't lose if you accept the bet. Either you win a million dollars, or Melbourne gets a premiership. Seems like a no-brainer to me!

Yep, you clearly have never played a game of “would you rather…”

Rule no. 1: you can’t say both

Rule no. 2: you can’t say neither

Rule no. 3: you MUST pick one

You’re welcome! 😁

And this is precisely why I bet AGAINST us every single week. Been doing it for years. If we win… great! If we lose… terrible. But terrible with a little extra $ in my pocket. It’s only $20 or so each time. Except when it’s Essendon and I up it to $50, such is my passionate HATRED for them. I put $100 on the Dogs to win the GF. Never been SO happy to lose a bet! ❤️💙

Even giving @Demonstone compliments such as you’ve done, DZ, won’t stop him correcting your spelling of humorous. But you’re right; he is very sharp-witted and humorous! And funny to boot.
I deliberately omitted the comma after the word funny because I think it might be funny to boot him occasionally. 😆

This is Exactly what I do each week and after losing most weeks, I started not only with Head to Head betting but was taking the opposition at the Line. That way getting a 40 or 50 point head start over the lower teams still got a small return. Line bets all the way this year. I Lost plenty this year for the first time in a while and would pay for it again to win this Season's Flag.

Sadly, I was making too much of a profit in previous years. This year I’ve lost money and couldn’t be happier. And just like you, I’d gladly pay it again this year. Even double the amount! ❤️💙

I had Hawthorn at the Line as well as H2H so I still got paid. I think I had 30 on each bet so overall I Lost but only a few dollars that week.

I was definitely in a foul mood. But only because we didn’t win. As for the bet, iirc they paid out for that.

No.  He was emergency for the firsts and didn't play in either game.  He sat in the stand.  He touches on this in his Captain's diary.

I don't expect him to remember everything about his career but I will 100% stake everything I own on him playing for Casey that day. Firstly I was there and saw him play, secondly Tom McDonald was walking the boundary in the breaks of the seconds so I suspect he was the emergency, and most importantly Max was named in the best players!

completely put to rest. I think the pain we inflicted on Geelong this year as well as winning a flag fully closes that chapter.

proof in point. when i think of Geelong now , I smile broadly and notice my Geelong friends grimace a little when we talk footy.

Round 23 or the PF is all that’s left in my memory of them. somewhere in a galaxy far far away i hear that the world was once temporarily out of balance re Geelong and Melb but the  equilibrium is now restored.

Twas the perfect year including a win over the eagles on their home turf, a win over power the same and the incredible comeback at kardinia which probably stuck in the cats minds for the prelim.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
