In the aftermath of Round 23 and trying to distract myself from the nerves of the impending finals series, I put together this quiz.

At the time, I was thinking, "This will surely be the highlight of the season, what could possibly top this?" (I wasn't allowing myself to think too far ahead).

I was also thinking, come the end of the year, if we'd been bundled out of the finals in some devastating fashion, it would be nice to reflect on this great comeback. And I thought people would have good chance at some tricky questions after likely dozens of viewings - of course, some of that may have been erased by hundreds of viewings of another pivotal few minutes since then!

So, for your entertainment, a 21-question quiz about the minutia of the last two minutes of Round 23.

Test yourself, test you relatives on Christmas. Post your score here!

NOTE: Questions refer to the Channel 7 broadcast and widely circulated information post-match.

Got 10 right in 4 mins 37 secs

I've looked at that sequence more than any other for the season including finals. Thought i would do better. Great questions though. I doubt anyone will get more than 15 without having to refresh they're memory beforehand

That was fun. Job well done.

I got 10 as well (*with a couple of guesses)

I got 12 right in 3mins 55 seconds. I should’ve got 14 except I was going too fast, and twice  hit on the wrong answer. Well, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. 😁

I got 57% which is better than my maths mark in Year 11! (and I haven’t watched that game again... yet!)

Ashamed of myself...

Also, didn't do so well in the quiz.

I just had a go and got every question correct in under 90 seconds.

Alas, my first three attempts were not as successful.

Thanks very much DiO.

Alas I did poorly but enjoyed doing it.

Gee that was a ripper of a game despite the umps pinging Gus for insufficient intent which was a howler. I'm so glad that Lever didn't just go the roost which given the clock time many players would have. Cool head is Jake.

The look on Hawkins face when Max marked was fantastic. He was so angry.

I know score wise there have been bigger comebacks but at Kardinia park and the top spot at stake it will go down as one of our best.

8 for me, ashamed! I know what I'll be watching tonight.

10 correct, two of which were rank guesses. Enjoyable quiz, well done.

(SPOILER AHEAD)

I was going to protest being called incorrect at the collision question when I answered Cameron and Henderson - then I remembered that was earlier in the quarter, and there was one involving Dangerfield and someone at (our) half forward. Amazing all the little details you forget.

Ten only.  But then I can’t remember much of anything these days. Unless it was 50 years ago.

...which, in things MFC, would involve total recall of 'Diamond' Jim Tilbrook's debut, at (as a commentator noted) "$5 a kick"?

Like it was yesterday.

14 correct.

To be fair I did rewatch this match about two weeks back. Still lol at Richo getting worked up on commentary “you’re trying to win the game?!”.

“… you’re trying to keep it in.”

Poor Richo had to keep his composure while the rest of us were free to scream blue murder. 😆

Thank you, 2021; now we can say,

Like, it was so yesterday!

Yeah that was a deliberate trick question on my part. Had to celebrate the fact that there were two almost comical collisions like that in the quarter!

If it was about the Grand Final would get 100%

Sounds like a challenge 😉 Maybe I'll make one for early next year and see who's been keeping up their re-watching!

Which player looked the angriest when Max marked?

(Hint...yes not a defender)

After over 300 attempts, here are some quiz results.

Average score: 44%

Not surprisingly given it was a trick question, the one that tripped people up the most was "Which two Geelong players collide at a crucial moment?", with many (58.7%) selecting "Cameron and Henderson", which didn't happen in the last 2 minutes, instead of "Dangerfield and Simpson" (14.2%).

An impressive number (22.8%) were able to name the order of players in a key handball chain - I thought this would be much lower!

The highest scoring questions were "Which two people are shown chatting as Gawn prepares to take his kick?" (91.4%) followed by "What does May say to Gawn after he takes the mark?" (88.4%).

I'm putting together an epic Grand Final quiz, which I'll post shortly.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
