I think a bit tough. Adelaide, bears and Freo all at their home grounds.  The ladies bogey side, the dogs, at whitten oval.

We play 2/4 of last years bottom 4 teams, whereas Brisbane play them all.

But then who knows, some teams will improve and some be worse. Particularly in the women’s game, you only need one injury to a key player and your chances of winning the comp goes down the gurgler.

You need to beat the best to be the best. The fixture is fine - we just can't afford to drop games against the bottom sides as we did last year.

Disappointing however not to get home games against any of the big Victorian sides.

Maybe Round 10!

  • 4 weeks later...

  • 1 month later...

Wondering if the fixture on the AFL website is the latest?

Bulldogs have played 6 games and by my count are scheduled to play 3 more in rounds 7 to 9.  That is a total of 9 games for the season.  (They round 10 game vs Freo was brought forward and played a few weeks ago).

However, I can't find a substitute game for their round 2 postponed Lions game...

I must say the current round has produced some disappointing contests.

With four extra teams coming in next year, the AFL needs to look at the disparity in strength between the top half dozen clubs and the rest and even consider a two division competition for a couple of years until things stabilize.

At the time DIO made her post the round 10 fixture had not been announced.

Yep. Surely we'll play Geelong next season... could even still be in 2022!

Well my fixture by Demonland was posted earlier on my phone than DIO and Wonnabeeri on the 2 Dec comments.

Would not have been much in it but Dland fixture for 10 rounds inc. R 10 was at 6.45 pm and the other comments after that were in my phone. DIO'was 8.07  pm.
But it's weird worrying about a Dees game potentially in 2023 when we haven't completed 2022.
Maybe  unless she lives in Geelong!!

Yep, I hadn't caught up with the Round 10 release. From memory, I'd heard they were going to keep the last round unfixtured for flexibility.

I'm just interested because it's a quirk in the fixture that we've never played Geelong in four seasons. No big deal.

Bloody annoying they have the free game on at 4pm on weekday. Really hard to get there with the kids to watch the girls play after school being in freo.

The AFLW fixture is broken but it can be fixed.

Some posters have noticed that in the hastily put together redraw of matches, the Western Bulldogs who have played six games to date, have only three games left on their fixture. Geelong have played seven matches but are drawn to play four more including the mysteriously unplayed Round 7 game v Fremantle from Sunday.

That game is the key to the puzzle. It should be scrapped and replaced with a game between Freo and the Bulldogs which would then ultimately lead to all teams finishing the season on 10 games. The question for the AFLW is when to play the game.

By late cancellation of the Geelong vs Freo game the AFL seem to have woken up to the problem.

You have answered the mystery by noticing the extra Geelong game and that a Freo vs Bulldogs game will fix the problem.   It can be played in round 10 as both teams currently have a 'bye' according to the afl website.

Bulldogs are playing well so it could be a key game to determine the final ladder order.

Edit:  I just noticed that Freo and Bulldogs played their round 10 game on Feb 1 which Freo won.  So there must be a mismatch elsewhere in the fixture, at least in the one published on the afl website.

Hopefully, the clubs know who they are playing...

I think the AFL have snookered themselves.

To keep the season going they rescheduled games but also mixed and matched teams that weren't originally scheduled to play each other.  Somewhere in those mixes and matches they have miscalculated the number of games.

The result (according to my summary of the season) all teams will have played 10 games except the Bulldogs who will play 9.

Can't see a way of fixing this that will be fair to all teams.  The teams they haven't played are Lions, North, Saints and Carlton.  It wouldn't be fair to the first two who will be in finals to play another game for no points.  And it wouldn't be fair to teams in the finals for them to play Saints or Carlton for whom it will be an exhibition match and virtually gift the bulldogs 4 pts.

The best thing that can happen is that after round 9 the Bulldogs are well and truly out of contention for finals or cannot progress higher up the ladder if in finals, so the 10th game doesn't matter and it is forfeited.

I assume someone at the Bulldogs has alerted the AFL to this rather glaring anomaly.

Yes - just realised that - well there is a problem.

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
