I have watched tommy Sparrow come on in leaps and bounds this year, particularly his final series, and love what he is contributing to the team. Anyone who can roost a 50m goal off one step is ok with me. His thoughtful and well placed kicks to Ben Brown and Dogga, both for goals, in the last quarter of the GF showed a touch of class.  He also brings a lot of strength and hardness to his game reminiscent to me of Todd Viney. Any mid who can go forward and hit the scoreboard is gold these days and tommy is one of those mids. I also expect him to improve and have a great 2022.

I hope Sparrow's trajectory is up not like when Weideman announced himself 2018 finals.

You never know, but it seems unlikely. However, Tommy could go the rest of his career without getting a single possession and he will still be remembered fondly for being one of the mighty crew who delivered a flag for this great club.

Amazing to think he is already a premiership player with so much improvement left in him. He is now, and always will be, one of an elite group of MFC players. I still am trying to wrap my head around that we finally made it to the Promised Land after waiting those 57 long years. Never thought I would see one again in my lifetime and am so happy and grateful.

Tom Sparrow has a touch of the Brent Moloney’s about him

Like when he kicked the ball to Fritta instead of going for glory and trying to kick it post height for a certain goal in the first quarter. Kicked it to the advantage of another teammate. Always thinking of others. Guys a winner and even Pettracca and Oliver don't  make every decision the right one. He's a positive at our club and not something we need to be worried about.

Spot on. Dee Spencer was on some serious medication when he wrote that rubbish.
TS will be a fine player. He was no passenger in any of the Final Series games.
he performed and his kicking was top class. He will only get better

As I said before, Tom reminds me of a young Travis Boak out of all current players. Very strong, hard at the ball and a superb long kick.

Sparrow came a very long way since the Collingwood game.

Migrated, did he? Wouldn't surprise. This team is capable of great things.

Possibly always wondered how he would have gone in a good side

Last night I watched the PF again - looking at Tom in particular.   He plays such a measured mature game for such a young man.
Huge upside.  Could be anything, especially with CP5, Clarry and JV7 still in the mix.
Awesome thought.

TS was a pretty good scholar as well as sportsman at college, another smart cookie at the club, just love that glint in his eye.!!

One of 23 MFC immortals. No flag in our lifetime will ever mean as much as this. The most hard earned and purest football Premiership in  not only our history but in VFL/AFL history.

Played a ripper Gf with poise and selflessness.  That goal off one step like was like Tracs earlier one except that Tom is a lot younger. A potential  close to another CP perhaps. I thought James Jordan was dealt a harsh blow being replaced by Sparrow. Thought they were at about the same level but I'm now sure they are not. Nothing against JJ but TS is a gun for his age.

It is interesting to speculate where his best position will be going forward. He is built like a rugged onballer, but we have plenty of outstanding versions of them. I suspect he will end up on the wing, or centre, certainly has the class for both. Not sure yet about his endurance, but no doubt we will find out in the next year or so. Certainly an amazing prospect….

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
