Alot of you spend time and thought with analysis and opinion, trying to pinpoint the flaw in our team. From these first 2 games I honestly don't know where to start. Absolutely found wanting in every aspect of the game. I don't envy ND's task. He must look at that display and think 'where do I start?'

Disappointed is an understatement. We can all come in here and say that Sydney started off poorly the last two years and still made the granny twice, winning once. But, we're arent Sydney. And considering the past 5 or so years of the MFC, I really doubt that we will end up like Sydney. You only have to look at the past three years to say that we will eventually hit our peak, be considered a threat, before knocking off early again. Can anyone really see anything else happening?

The more i think about it, last year 2006, was our big chance.

Losing twice to Carlton cost us a top 4 spot. With all our finals at the MCG we were a decent chance of claiming a flag.

It is obvious things are not going to work this year. It will be easy for our players to give up, because not many of them have heart. Our supporters will give up shortly after.

Yes i agree that Daniher is flawed as a coach at times, but to say the problem with our team is him is just stupid. Look at our injury list already:

Neitz

Robbo

Brocky

Bartram (all of these guys will be out for at least a month each)

Dunn

Frawley (these two would have been walk ups with our top line injuries)

---------------------

UNDERDONE

Pickett

Macca

He can't stop our players from getting injured, i will judge how he handles them critically but you've got to give some leeway. Not to mention in both games we have been down to a 2 person bench at half time (V Hawthorne).

Of course Daniher is not solely guilty of creating the problems at Melbourne at the moment. But he should absolutely not be acquitted either.

But unfortunately in this environment the buck stops with the coach because they are his team and it is his job to get the best out of them. He has been good for the club, and I would hope that no-one would say other wise, but it is fact that he has his limitations.

Currently he seems to be very reactionary, and as always there are the complaints about there being no secondary plan, and the speed (or lack there of) to make manoeuvres on the field if the first choice options are not working.

Now he can't help player form slumps, but must be able to recognise them and act on them when they happen.

Players will always have bad days (and I think we tend to forget that they are human and will make mistakes no matter how irritating it is to us) as will a coach, but the game plan and the execution of it seem to go hand in hand at the moment.

And of course he can't help injuries, as they are just an unfortunate fact of the trade.

So I guess what I am saying is that no is not completely responsible but at the end of the day he is the coach and it all comes down to him, and if he can't fix the problems we have then I believe that his days are probably numbered.

Why did I believe this was the year?

And as for the question posed in the thread title......because we always want to believe that this will be the year :rolleyes: !!!

We've struggled with all of them in the side anyway, so your theory is flawed. We lost to Carlton in round 1 with almost a full side, didn't we?

Our best 22 has the ability to make top 4, unfortunately now we will be with out 3 of them until about round 6 another one in Col hasn't played yet, same goes with Byron, and to be honest Byron is 3-4 weeks away from playing consistant good footy at AFL level. We has lost Bartram for a long period as well and Dunn gets his first run back at Sandy this week. If we can get through the next 6 weeks and pick up 2 or 3 wins we still have the ability to get into the finals. To have any chance we need to be 2w-6l min. Anything less than that no finlas for us and the end of the ND coaching at the MFC.

Your'e right. This will become apparent in 2 - 3 years time.

1990 was our last chance, knocking off Hawks twice in 2 weeks, getting a weeks rest due to a finals draw, Lyon with a good back, Darren bennett kicking goals.

And an even finals group with no certainty like 2000. Collingwood for god's sake.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
