Will you be satisfied with the Season of 2021 even if we lose the Preliminary Final 176 members have voted

If we can't beat Geelong , it's a failure now.   We are best team left by at least 3 goals

    Thank Christ the club and its current players don't share this mindset. Winning Premierships is not just about the satisfaction of current supporters and members. It's about the long term prosperity and indeed survivability of the club's themselves.

    How long do you think Gold Coast or GWS will be around if they only play for fun and not to win? It's the essence of Professional sport.

    Now that I know we are playing Geelong, the answer is no. 
    The only thing I hate more than Covid is Geelong.

    Why is a view that is different to yours a strange mindset? Why use a condescending manner? Are you upset with me because of the way I think? As I said, seems my outlook has ruffled your feathers.  

    I am not speaking for the club or the players, I am speaking about what gives me satisfaction, 

    Those who want to climb to the top of Mt. Everest can do it and I will applaud them. Whether it is MFC or not.

    I however, would be grateful just to get to Nepal. I am grateful to see MFC play matches, and enjoy, no matter the outcome.

    Most ambitious people don't share my view of wanting and accepting the average.

    For me average is a great place to be.

    Maintenance is more valuable to me than achievements.

    So long as I have a cosy place to sleep, and food, then I am pretty satisfied. Many in this world don't have that every day. I am grateful for the small things.

    The world beaters, have all their priorities askew, and I believe have really stuffed "it" up, in their quest to outdo each other. From the politics of gender, class and race, to our environment, to the structure and use of commodities, capital and power.

    There is no room for many to enjoy this sacred thing, life. As the many are repulsed by the competitive,  uncompassionate, hedonistic winner take all approach to being, creating a world of far too much suffering. 

    Not satisfied unless we win more! How oblivious to the real world can you be!

    By the way, how do you know the mindset of the AFL players?

    You can win and play for fun at the same time, it is a game.

    I could cop a loss if it was against the Giants.

    I simply cannot cop this against Geelong. Out of all teams, I can't just fathom the though of losing to Geelong and letting it eat inside of me for 6 months.

    The opportunities don't get any better than this year.  WE finished top of the ladder.  WE are the best side in the competition.  We have a full list available to play.  This is it.

    Having lived in that neck of the woods on numerous occasions, I don’t hate the region as such. There is much to admire about that football club (as a whole) from 1999 onwards.

    However, ever since 1988 when I first started watching footy, these blokes have consistently clowned us. 

    Those trips to Kardinia Park from 2008 to 2015 (when we finally broke through for a W) were absolutely soul destroying stuff. Hell, James Kelly once pretended he was having a nap during the singing of the club song while Gary Junior chortled along with him.

    Usually, experienced players would avoid that as it could come back to bite them later. But we were in no position to bite back, so it was all like water off a duck’s back.

    This reminds me of the Lakers (us)vs. Celtics (them) in the 1985 NBA finals. We are the young, exciting up comers and they are the battle hardened pros who don’t take us seriously.

    We need to make them take us seriously.

    The question is would we be happy with season 2021 when the smoke settles and to that I would say yes.

    If the question was are we happy with missing a golden opportunity then no. Need to seize the moment.

    I just want the Dees to win this year's flag and won't be satisfied if we fail to achieve that.

    I couldn't give a rip about anyone's feelings on other stuff. That's your business.

    Totally agree. Everything has come together perfectly for us this year - form, injury, the club humming at every level, everything. We may never get an opportunity as ripe as this one.

    Without a doubt, it would be the one that got away.

    And despite what others think, I think we've got some stiff competition in Port and Bulldogs who schooled us in round 19 so it's not our flag to lose. Those two are our major threats. Not to mention if Geelong click on prelim night.

     

    The first line pretty much sums up my position, if it were to be the case.

    As we all know flags are hard to win and we’ve earned a great opportunity, which from here would very much be a missed one if we were not to win it now

    I’m not basing my satisfaction levels on what my expectations were half a year ago. Since then I’ve seen 23 games of footy that have justified turning the expectations dial up to 100. 

    I’m definitely glad, excited and proud that we’ve gotten this far, but I’ll be bummed if we’re not able to finish the job from here.

    Many fail, because of the preparation. Habits take alot of time to perfect. Habits lead to addiction and addictions can destroy us, by creating dysfunction and prioritising some behaviours that interfere with things we should be doing.

    I would also suggest that high flyers have difficulty adjusting once the razzle dazzle subsides. They were driven to attaining one type of thing and forgot to gain wisdom on how to live contently.

    Prepare yourself to deal with failure.

    Definitely our best since 1964.

    I would later reflect that this was a great season where we achieved so much, but if we lost I’d see this as the biggest chance we got that we let slip. We can’t take for granted we’ll get this chance again. They already did in 1965.

    Never in my life have I ever feel we have a greater chance to win the premiership and this is the first time in my lifetime we’ve been the favourites to take it. We’re so close I can feel it. If we miss this we might never get another chance. My dad and uncle have waited 57 years. My mother never lived to see it. Our time is now. We can’t blow this.

    Good if we do win, as it will bring some moments of joy, but losing is not uncomfortable for me,

    There will be some disappointment, but on a whole this season has already given plenty.

    I’ll be a little disappointed if we don’t win four in a row and wipe out 1958 memories but I’m enjoying the ride this year

    Personally I feel sorry for those who will only be satisfied/happy/whatever if we win the big one. Enjoy the ride is what I say. Regardless of the destination, ie., flag or no flag, getting there is always more than half the fun. 

     

    Wouldn’t it be a shame not to get of seasons review DVD that you get when you win the premiership. They don’t do that for just making the finals anymore, so all these wonderful highlights will never be properly captured. I want to relive them over and over again already

    That wasn’t the OP’s question. The question is will you be satisfied if we go down in the prelim? You oughtn’t begrudge someone the joy of the incredible journey this season’s been despite not winning the flag.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions.
