So I suppose you ran out of ideas/thoughts at that point? Who do Petty and Lever take? Or doesn't your "analysis" extend that far?

No, that's as far as my guess work goes beyond factoring in Lever intercepting and Max stopping as  crucial

I definitely want to keep May away from Hawkins and his clumsy elbows, but I can’t see how he doesn’t play on him. He’s their best forward by a mile.

Interesting point, in the light of previous match-ups between Hawkins, the blessed one and May, the toiler. Surely, Hawkins just has to start this match 'on warning', meaning that he virtually should not be permitted to assault other players due to his ability to avoid suspension or reviews of his onfield conduct with other players. May should come out with a head helmet - to signal his resistance to what has happened before from 'The Thug'.

Carna Dees... we can take this one, and silence / negate the advantages of rule interpretations that the Cats enjoy.

At what point did I say they were worthless?

Swing Smith forward in the second half. Allow him to backline intercept and spoil in the first, making the Cats' weary legs tire. Give opportunities for Smith to find space and hit targets upfield.

i'll go:

- petty on hawkins
- smith on cameron
- may on rohan

lever will have a man play on him rather than on a man himself

Nah, May on Hawkins (wearing a helmet), Petty on Cameron, Smith on Rohan. Maybe (in addition), Bowser to tag Selwood's forward entries and Lever to intercept all forward action by Dangerfield.

I wish Hibberd was playing.

Did so much for us in our winning streak earlier.

Experience in finals a must. Smith was good but Hibberd should have retained his spot.

On the brightside, Hibbo will be straight back in if Smith has a shocker you'd suspect, so playing a top 4 side last game of the home and away season the perfect finals audition.

Not the time to take risks imho.

I thought Hibbo played better than Smith.

I get Smith may provide more run and carry but hes just not that experienced yet.

Tonight is a final for us.

Am I the only one who would prefer Jones in the team over Sparrow?

Yes. Jones does not have the defensive aspects of our game that are the non negotiable now and I consider will be even more-so in a weeks time.

Our team plays structurally. So if Hawkins plays deep,  may will take him. Cameron roams up the ground then petty might take him,  Smith on rohan seems likely as GR likes to play leading at the ball carrier from the goal square. That leaves Bowey on Miers, lever floating and Salem doing his usual thing..

He may very well play the Hunt style role this week, I just personally hope he doesn't due to his disposal.

You will not find a more harsh critique on a man's ability to kick the footy.

The Hawkins/Cameron double vs May/Petty/Lever looms as the match up that will determine the course of the game. If Lever is able to play his interception role we’re good, if not then I would personally like to see Gawn sent back to his defensive coverage role. I actually prefer him there as opposed to forward, Jackson’s form up forward is much better than Max so I see Max as being the main ruck from defence until wing, Jacko wing/HF/F with Brown/TMac chopping in when needed.

On Max, he needs to have his catch mits on tonight, he barely took a contested mark last week.

At some stage I would love to see Petty play Hawkins, even if only for his further development.

If we are 8 goals up with 5 minutes to go... why not!

My worry tonight is the lack of run off HB without our usual runners Hibbo & Hunt.  Might struggle to rebound but let's hope not.

Smith will cost us with his horrific decision making. Hopefully he's out for our first final. Should've been delisted a few years ago.

Love the early call.

What's breakeven for you with respect to Smith @TheoX

This was also you about Kozzie Pickett last year. Your judgement over the journey has been horrendous.

Leave the footy chat to us big boys hey.

Doesn't get the ball, doesn't kick goals. Didn't do it at U18 level either. Gives away frees, average skills, poor decision making. Some of that will improve obviously but he's not what you'd want from a high draft pick.

Lol Pickett, does nothing but give away frees. Cant believe we've likely essentially paid more than pick 1 for him.

The other thing to watch tonight....how do we cover the kick ins?   Do we allow them half the field to play in like we've done before which has failed us badly?

Certainly hope not.  It has to be intense pressure from the get go starting pretty deep inside 50 for mine if we're to bring this one home

And exactly as I "guessed "

Including leaving Lever free to intercept.

So much for pompous analysis from the cheap seats

Lol

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
